I mean, really? They've sentenced him in half the time it takes NY just to get a suspect to their first appearance. How is that possible?

I have a feeling that judge is going to regret going light and that whomever protects Macron is about to level up on security.

It would be a shame if some enterprising entrepreneur had an online odds and betting about slapping Macron and made a game of it, wouldn't it?

I don't know if French law allows it but if it did and I were Macron I'd give the guy clemency with a statement about how emtions are high coming out of a pandemic and while his actions were wrong the sentence is excessive and he should be permitted to return to help "rebuild together". Flip it from a look of imperial power being employed to crush dissent into one of sympathy, empathy, and hope for the future. Plus the guy doesn't deserve prison time for slapping anyone other than a kid I guess.

But that's just me.

Luckily they finally banned the guillotine in 1978.

I hope that the fellow is treated a bit as a celebrity in the jail by prisoners and warders alike.

That was fast. Note to self, Canada not citizen-friendly.

He must been a white conservative then? If he were Muslim, they wouldn’t have dared convict him or even arrest him. No details at the link

“They've sentenced him in half the time it takes NY just to get a suspect to their first appearance.”

He may be better off. Over here he could wait in solitary confinement for 12 months without bail waiting for a trial that ended up imposing a 4 month sentence.

Four months? Shoot, do that here and they’ll hold you in solitary confinement for as long as they care to. Then take you to court where you’ll receive no justice and where you’d be sentenced to 20+ years.

I imagine there would be a line formed to slap these silly azzes we currently have DC if it was only 4 months.

Some might even jump lines to bop three or four of ‘em.
