Companies can make their employees who are returning to the job get vaccinated against Covid-19.
But so far, few companies have decided to move forward, as many are still engaging in internal debates about how to safely restore their offices to operations that resemble what they were before the pandemic.
Pressed by some of the nation’s biggest business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Friday that companies could mandate vaccines as a requirement for coming into the office. The agency had issued a similar note in December.
Some companies say they are wary of setting mandates until the vaccines have received full approval by the Food and Drug Administration, which so far has granted emergency use authorization. Another reason many companies remain hesitant, according to executives, lawyers and consultants who advise companies, is the long list of legal considerations the E.E.O.C. says they must follow before mandating vaccines.

Vaccine mandates must abide by the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the E.E.O.C. said. That means companies must accommodate employees with health concerns like allergies and keep that information confidential. “I think that the fact that it takes the E.E.O.C. several pages of notes to talk about all the steps you need to take to reasonably accommodate someone who has a disability or a religious reason why they can’t get a vaccine is one of the reasons why employers might still choose not to mandate,” said Douglas Brayley, an employment lawyer at Ropes & Gray."

The demonrats passed legislation saying any adverse effects from vaccines are a SAIF claim making companies responsible so they mandate at their own risk.

You first. Let’s see the CEOs of the airlines take this poison public relations poison first and then we’ll decide.
Most firms don't force their employees to get a flu vaccine (though most cover whatever cost of the flu shot), and they don't ask for their vaxx history since birth. This is not a good place to start collecting this sensitive info. Indeed, I don't think firms want to even touch the idea of documenting employees' sexual preference/LGBT etc., even if certain social groups want to see that kind of detail published. It's a minefield.
I've heard it said here and elsewhere, and I think it's worth repeating: the dept of Human Resources is one of your best friends if you're in a corporation. They are much-maligned but they keep you out of hot water, are an invaluable sounding board, and have seen it all. They have to navigate this territory...imagine having an employee base ranging from the likes of DU posters and MSNBC viewers, to FreeRepublic posters. Heck, Freepers can't agree on everything and we're allegedly on the same side of the fence. I don't envy them.
The best way to deal with this is to have the Republicans run on a non-discrimination platform and take back the House and Senate. Chad and Karen weren't going to vote Republican anyway.
The woke wave may have hit a wall in this forced vax idea. People may be sticking to their guns in this and threatening to walk.
One of the admirable things Abbott did here in the Lone Star State is forbid employers from requiring the “vax”.
So far, my company has maintained the position that the vaccination is a personal choice for all employees which is good.
Dittos on the value of the HR department. We've discussed this before and I know from experience that a well-run HR department is vital to a large corporation.
And we've discussed this, too...there IS value in being in the office. I've had a number of people return to the office recently who commented positively on the "separation" they got between family and work. It'll all get sorted out in the marketplace, and I believe all-virtual is a losing proposition while a mix will win.
I suspect the vaccination trap will force corporate hands, too. I bet some firms' employees will WANT a mandate lest they be exposed to unmasked and "mouth-breathing" unvaxxed masses. Unvaxxed, good employees will migrate to more hands-off employers. Equilibrium will arise and we will see vaxx Karen firms and hands-off firms happily competing.
My HR friends have told me horror stories on these fronts, akin to employees going out in Feb and renting homes in the Outer Banks for the summer when their Philadelphia employer is now having everyone return to work twice a week.
Retirement may be a viable option amidst this insanity, but honestly work is way too fun.
Post a $2M bond against any future medical issue I might have related to the jab, and I’ll think about it.
Until then, you’re asking me to accept potentially life threatening risk in exchange for nothing new.
