It’s a pitiful thing to see a strong man cry. It’s a sickening thing to see a man body-slam himself, then twist his own arm behind his back and make himself tap out.

Wrestler turned actor John Cena may look like the Rock, but when it comes to China he’s Pee-Wee Herman. Doing an interview for his upcoming film “F9” in Taiwan, he referred to that free and thriving democratic island, which has had a separate government since 1949, as a “country” instead of as a province of China.

When this led to an “outcry,” meaning it displeased the Communist Party of China, alleged tough guy Cena mewled and groveled and begged for forgiveness.

Pathetic. And you can be sure that came down from the top of whatever studio produced this flick. Hey John, you're messing with our distribution in a one billion viewer market (which I imagine is the main market for these insipid films, they've made nine of them?! It also shows us Hollywood's focus: their market is China and they will do and say anything to protect that market.

Cena’s walking back his innocuous comment about the country of Taiwan had nothing to do with a lack of moral compass since he clearly has none. Rather, as I see it, his retraction was about money. No doubt, the Studio or his agent whispered in his ear that China was angry and might not allow the movie to be shown there unless Cena did what was required. Like any good character out of 1984, Cena realized the error of his prior statement and did his best to erase it from history.
