New York Yankees Now Have Ninth Covid-19 Breakthrough Case
Deadline ^

Posted on 05/17/2021 12:36:16 AM PDT by Tipllub

UPDATE: A ninth member of the New York Yankees organization has tested positive for coronavirus after being fully vaccinated.

Manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that a “staff member” tested positive, which they learned Saturday night. He did not identify the staffer, but said the new case was not part of the on-field coaching staff. Previously, pitching coach Matt Blake, first base coach Reggie Willits and third base coach Phil Nevin, along with shortstop Gleyber Torres, were named as the positive cases.

The staff member that tested positive Saturday is quarantining in Baltimore. The other positive cases remain in quarantine in Tampa.

Having trouble figuring out what is going on here. Almost like they didn't really get the vaccine. The other players that had the vaccine should ALL be tested for antibodies....They all should have them.

Rather confusing.

Antibody testing is complicated. Decades ago we measured them serially to see if you had an acute, active infection, or if they were declining in your natural recovery stage.
Gen 1 antibody tests can be problematic, as we saw in hiv antibody tests. The fact of the matter is, the cdc changed how they are counting breakthrough cases for a reason, to falsely claim higher efficacy.
For some reason every democrat in the world wants you to submit to this vax.. for your own good. For grandma.
Normally the grandma card is reserved for the surprise budget around Christmas.

7 COVID cases on NY staff; Gleyber held out

All seven received the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the team said. Nevin displayed some symptoms, while six of the seven cases are said to be asymptomatic, according to manager Aaron Boone...“One of the good things about being vaccinated is that we are blunting the effects of this virus,” Boone said. “I feel like, in a lot of ways, because we’re vaccinated, we’re good and we’re able to deal with this.

Since this would have started with only a single person, the idea that it doesn’t easily spread goes out the window.

“The grandma card - don’t leave home without it!”

I had read that antibody tests were not that accurate for this use, and maybe that’s what you mean (Is it like an in-progress snapshot?).

Could you explain more about the change the CDC made? They went through a show of running antibody trials but really, they then claimed low antibodies meant no immunity remained and everyone needs boosters boosters boosters.
So now we’re to outsource immunity as if human immune systems are too outdated.

Or links, if you have more of those than you have free time! :D

Large viral loads, probably, considering the many close contacts. The J&J vaccines is good for most people but not as effective as the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. Most were “traveling staff” members, BTW.

A 9th vaccinated New York Yankees member tested positive for Covid-19 but feels good, manager says
By Wayne Sterling and Eric Levenson, CNN
https://us.cnn.com/2021/05/16/us/yankees-covid-tests-positive-trnd/index.html

“The J&J one-shot vaccine was found in US clinical trials to be 72% effective against moderate Covid-19 and 85% effective against severe Covid-19. Boone said the latest staffer “feels good,” and seven of the other team members infected were asymptomatic. Nevin was the only one who showed symptoms, and he is now feeling better, vice president of communications Jason Zillo said previously.”

The dumbasses at Deadline don’t know what a breakthrough case is.

Covid vaccines promise is that you won’t get so sick it requires hospitalization. And die.

Not that you won’t get infected.Very few vaccines prevent infection.

Yes. Little excerpt here.

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/health-departments/breakthrough-cases.html

COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Case Investigation and Reporting

This page provides information and resources to help public health departments and laboratories investigate and report COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough cases.

Vaccine breakthrough cases are expected. COVID-19 vaccines are effective and are a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. However, no vaccines are 100% effective at preventing illness in vaccinated people. There will be a small percentage of fully vaccinated people who still get sick, are hospitalized, or die from COVID-19.

More than 115 million people in the United States have been fully vaccinated as of May 10, 2021. Like with other vaccines, vaccine breakthrough cases will occur, even though the vaccines are working as expected. Asymptomatic infections among vaccinated people will also occur.

There is some evidence that vaccination may make illness less severe for those who are vaccinated and still get sick.

Current data suggest that COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the United States offer protection against most SARS-CoV-2 variants currently circulating in the United States. However, variants will cause some vaccine breakthrough cases.

while six of the seven cases are said to be asymptomatic

The rest of the science is to randomly select 7 healthy ball players who are not vaccinated, and get COVID. Then see if 6 out of 7 are aymptomatic in that case. Then we will know if the vaccine does "blunt the effects" of the virus. My suspicion from the CDC numbers is it does not.

Since this would have started with only a single person, the idea that it doesn’t easily spread goes out the window.

Coronaviruses account for ~15% of seasonal colds. We know how easy they spread.

Fr changed a few years ago.. I noticed it in 2016. It went from a place of debate and reason to the use of continual ad hominem attacks. Anyone who pushes the mask or vax, or any other globalist agenda is not fr. So I ignore their continual attacks because their scripting is clearly from the dems and the deep state. Agree to disagree has gone out the window as has debate.
