This could be bad if they keep voting for what they fled, which many of them do.

I know some NYC transplants to FL. They may enjoy the Sunshine State, but they also still love to vote Democratic.

Two years ago Ted Cruz faced a very close election here in Texas due to hundreds of millions of outside money poured into Texas to oppose Senator Cruz. It at that time was the most expensive Senatorial election in history.

As many fled California due to its total mismanagement there was fear they could be the tipping point against Cruz. Post election analysis was odd. They left California due to the fact they no longer had those political values of past. They voted for Ted Cruz not massively but more than less. They actually helped Ted Cruz.

Pity poor Florida. I remember back when it was a nice place.

I am sure there is movement of folks from the Northeast to Florida, no doubt.

I also know folks in the northeast who have relatives that reside in Florida and switch their legal residence and drivers licenses to Florida. The non-resident tax on their New York or New Jersey income is less than the resident tax. Working from home makes that easier as well; there is no “going into the office” regardless of where the office is.

The trick is getting someone else as the owner or lease holder on the place they actually live. Without doing that and without getting regular mail NOT sent to where they are actually living, the tax sleuths in New York or New Jersey are likely to discover the ruse and deny the filing of tax reports as a “non-resident”.
