Texas House Approves NRA-Backed Permitless Carry Bill
NRA-ILA ^ | 4/16/2021

Posted on 04/16/2021 10:41:24 AM PDT by Shadylake

Early Thursday evening, on a 84-56 vote, the Texas House gave initial approval to House Bill 1927, by Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), an NRA-backed permitless carry proposal that would allow law-abiding citizens to carry a handgun without a state-issued License To Carry (LTC). This is the first time a permitless carry bill has been debated by, and passed out of, one legislative chamber. Earlier today, the House gave final approval to HB 1927 and voted 87-58 to send the measure to the Texas Senate. Click on the links provided to see how your State Representatives voted on HB 1927. Be sure to thank those who supported permitless carry!

Thank you to Rep. Schaefer for authoring this important bill, to House Committee Chairmen James White (R-Woodville) & Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) for moving the legislation through their committees, and to Speaker Dade Phelan and his team for their leadership on this critical measure.

It's time for Texas to join the 20 other states that have legalized this personal protection option!

This seems like the farthest it's gotten by far. I still wouldn't be too surprised if the Senate doesn't approve, but it's starting to look really good. C'mon Texas!

An armed society is a polite society.

Imagine if every single citizen was armed....

.....which spurs thoughts of a means to arm every citizen with a non-lethal device capable of immobilizing a criminal or attacker. Crime might disappear.

So just a back round check and if you pass you walk out with the pistol with no questions asked by seller and no reason given by the purchaser?

Basically. If you can legally own a gun you would be able to carry it. If not, nothing changes.

You can already do that in your car and there’s been no problems since they made that legal.

The only reason to be against this is to be against CCWs at all. All the ‘wild west’ talk.

My state representative, Brooks Landgraf, was one of the co-authors of the bill. He is a good representative for TEXAS and TEXANS of West Texas! β€οΈπŸ’™

Yeah, I was really upset when we moved to Houston. On Guam I had a CC permit even though I never used it; because, where do you conceal a weapon if you’re wearing swimming trunks and t-shirt? Texas did not offer reciprocity with Guam, even though Guam did with Texas.

Despite its reputation, Texas is not a particularly good state for gun laws or defense in general. Hopefully that is changing.

If this passes, the next thing I’d like to see them work on is invalidating all federal laws within the state.

I just moved to San Antonio year before last (from Washington state), and glad as heck to be back South. This is just icing on the cake. Can a more “experienced” Texan prognosticate as to fate of the legislation in the Texas Senate?

I’m interested to see how this bill will fare in the TX Senate. I’m going to be calling my State Senator to encourage him to get on board.

I’m pretty sure Abbott will sign it. He’s in dire straights over the freeze still.

The Senate is iffy I think. It’s never even gotten to them before I don’t think.

Would you be surprised if the governor vetoed it?

Yes, it IS good news! Now, let’s see if the TX Senate will pass it and IF Abbott will show some real intestinal fortitude and approve it!
