China Warplanes Simulated Attack on U.S. Aircraft Carrier, Defense Analysts Say

A fleet of Chinese warplanes likely simulated an attack on a U.S. aircraft carrier group when a record 25 fighter jets and nuclear-capable bombers triggered Taiwan's air defense radars this week, analysts said on Tuesday.

The military operation coincided with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group's (CSG) presence north of the Philippines, and came in the hours after Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed Washington's "serious commitment" to Taiwan and its self-defense.

Beijing's use of its People's Liberation Army to intimidate democratic Taiwan became a matter of public record last September when the island's defense ministry began logging aircraft intrusions into its self-declared air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

The near-daily flights concentrated around the southwest of the ADIZ—near the Bashi Channel and the entrance to the South China Sea—escalated further on Monday when 14 J-16 fighters and four H-6K heavy bombers were among 25 PLA aircraft to breach the zone between Taiwan proper and its outlying Pratas Island, also called Dongsha.

The operation, which was the largest single-day incursion since records began, marked the 10th consecutive day of Chinese aircraft forays into the ADIZ, and brought the April total to 76 aircraft at the time of publication. Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense reported PLA warplane sorties numbering 81, 40 and 54 for full months between January and March.

Great, just great.

We be nervous with Biden--or Biden's handlers--in charge.

Honestly, the Chinese navy would be negligent if it did not do this.

Correct. This is how a military plans for war against its enemy.

As it was just a war game exercise, but they forgot to model how many of these 25 aircraft would have survived a real attack.

25 ChiCom planes would first have to make past the Taiwanese air force and defenses, then what would have remained would face the US Navy carrier based squadrons and defense systems.

Only the suicidal nations. When a government announces that it is going to war against half of its own population (in our case, against Conservatives and Christians), enemy nations take note of an opportunity to expand their own territory.

Don’t they know we now have trannies and homosexuals in our Navy? They are better than any weapon. They will never be able to defeat our post-modern, woke, diverse defenses.

China will be at war with someone by the end of the year. And I don’t mean the border fistfights with India.

In the present political climate and with the neutered 'leadership' now in charge in the U.S., it's probably a good bet that if mainland China did move militarily against Taiwan, they calculate that, as long as they don't attack our forces, we won't interfere. That's currently a good bet

But also remember the immortal words of Sun Tzu, "All warfare is deception".

If they do mean to damage our forces in the regions, I doubt that the ChiComs would attempt a stand-up fight with our forces. Maneuvers as seen in this 'training exercise' would likely only be a feint. Remember some years ago the news that they had developed short-range ICBMs specifically tailored for taking out our carrier groups. Weapons like those settle matters very quickly, and against which we have little to no defense.

Yes, the world will gasp. Yes, the "international community" will be "outraged". And, just like it did in reaction to the Chinese Coronavirus, wagging fingers will likely be all China suffers.

A missile attack which destroyed one of our carrier groups would result in a counterattack by one or more of our nuclear submarines against similar assets of the ChiComs.

Well, we do have a defense for this, it involves launching our own IC/SLBMs. We cannot say when an ICBM or SRBM has a nuclear warhead(s) or not, so the war plan has always been treat it as a full on nuclear attack, which means we MUST launch ours before their warheads can reach them.

Chinese planners who advocate the use of such weapons needs to consider if they're willing to play city reduction with us.

I don't think it is wise.

That would be an appropriate response, although itself runs the risk of escalation. Not that the ChiComs are unwilling to get a bit bloodied to establish their goals. And if their forces are in close proximity to friendlies (like right off the coast of Taiwan), that would complicate things. It's a matter of extensive planning and coordination on their part, and I'm sure they have considered all angles.

This also assumes the aforementioned ICBMs had nuclear warheads. They may not, and even with conventional payloads, just one of these will knock out a carrier. I would expect more than one; a lot more.

I am just theorizing here... I am not a war-planner, or even play one on TV. $;-)

I don't think it's wise, either. That never seems to have stopped things in the past. Another factor here is that the ChiComs certainly realize that, as far as American "leadership" goes, they've never had less to fear than they do now. Amazing how quickly things change.

Yes, trading nuclear warheads is bad mojo, but as I mentioned to riverdawg above, they may not be nuclear, and they may not have to be to have the desired effect.

We have been working on ship-launched anti-missle missles, but those are still in the testing phase -- nothing deployed that I have heard of. That can't happen too soon.

Having served at Cheyenne Mountain (NORAD Combat Operations Center), Cape Cod AFS (PAVE PAWS) and Woomera, Australia (all missile warning) I can tell you there is no way to know whether an ICBM has a nuclear or conventional warhead until it explodes.

And we wouldn’t know what type of warhead the Chinese would launch at a carrier group so we would be crazy not to assume the worse. (Assume = ass / u /me)

The Russians or Chinese (as well as us) absolutely know if they launch a single ICBM, that we’ll fire back with everything. Why?

EMP burst.

Because ONCE that happens, you won’t have a country left to defend.

Mutually Assured Destruction has been our deterrence for 64 years (Since Sputnik).

I call it Pax Radium.

I hope you're right.
