I’m sorry if I’m stepping on toes, but I think Hemingway is one of the most overrated authors of the 20th Century. I’ve tried reading his stuff, and it’s just dull and uninspiring. Maybe that speaks more to me as a reader, but a good author ought to capture imaginations better.
Not just you.
Actuarial tables are more inspiring than anything Hemingway wrote. I was never able to get more than two chapters into anything he wrote.
I’m not sure why everyone claims he was a great writer. More like a full of himself jackass than anything else.
I laughed out loud reading your comment. I remember reading Mad magazine and a parody of Hemingway when I was 13 and thinking this stinks just like reading Hemingway.
I had no clue about how closely tied to events (activity) he actually was until reading this. I just thought he was a Nazi sympathizer when I was younger and decided to ignore him (unless a school assignment). My most striking impression of Hemingway is a Mad magazine parody!
Hemingway - “Look at me! Read about all the macho things I have done!”
Hemingway tried to be the equivalent of the Dos Equis guy, without the satire. He believed his own PR.
Sadly, in the end, even that did not satisfy or fulfill him.
I agree with you. Hemingway’s writings bore me to tears.
I agree!
