Tourism to Yellowstone in 2018 created $647.1 million in economic benefits; reports show visitor spending supports 7,089 jobs in local economy. However, if the feds bail on the support for the land, the parks and the animals in them will die.
As of last year, those jobs I mentioned were mainly held by governmental employees with government equipment and dwellings. The cost to support the already in place operation would be too much for the state to assume. I have been unable to find the exact costs of Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and the dozen state parks Wyoming supports, but I know they are high. And I wouldn’t not consider the feds blackmailing the state with this type of threat.
