Similar battles are moving their way up the court system in other Canadian provinces. Edicts to close churches to active worship services are being challenged by evangelical church groups and some Catholics. Some non-Christian groups are said to be supporting the legal challenges.

In B.C. my take is that the government is not quite so tone deaf and would likely avoid this kind of direct confrontation, preferring to mail out fines to pastors after the fact. But you have to wonder how big a factor this closing down of Christian worship is among the real causes of the events we see around us now. It seems like one of several objectives to me.

The hypocrisy is that other gatherings have been tolerated, you can go for a coffee or a meal or a drink, at least until the last week when some of those rights were curtailed again (as they were last spring for two months). But you can’t go to church or a political meeting. Hmm.

When resistance and frustration begin to boil over we may see some fairly widespread unrest because frankly the governments are not making very good cases for their lockdowns, the suspicion of a hidden agenda is growing and spreading, and the assessment of over-reaction is probably shared by most of the non-leftist portion of society. Of course where I live that’s me and two other people.
