The article is factually incorrect. All the Georgian tanks in Tsinvali has been destroyed by the militia and peacekeepers on August 8 using RPGs. 19th division approached the city in the evening of August 8, but the were busy eliminating the Georgian artillery position around and only entered after 9 am next day.
Of 120 tanks destroyed I really doubt many were by ATGM or other tanks.
Apart from 6 destroyed by RPGs in Tsinvali the rest has been bombed from the air (usually abandoned the the fleeing troops at the time) or demolished by the advancing infantry.

I am not interested in Pro-Russian or Anti-Russian propaganda but rather how the logistics of something like this could go down in the modern era.
NATO better have really up to date Intel if they are going to stop a Russian invasion. If an invasion occurs by the time NATO reacts it will be retaking Estonia, and maybe Latvia if the Russians decide to move south and if Belarus decides to help. Lithuania may be safe because of Poland but Kaliningrad could be a problem. Ukraine might threaten the Belarus southern border but be very active.

That article is 7 years old. I think we have solved the man portable anti tank weapon problem by now. Not only have we bought much more Javelins we also replaced the old Carl Gustafs with the newest version.
What we had was the old 31 lb one, so not very nice to carry long distances. Especially if you want to carry one HE round loaded, that adds 9 lbs. The new launcher is 15 lb.
At some point Kaliningrad is going to have to become independent of Russia, much like Bangladesh and Pakistan went separate ways, only less messy...

That would make the border with Russia so much safer. What makes me angry is Russia’s constant lying (and what makes me more angry is seeing western people believing their bullcr*p).
They like to pretend that they are threatened by 7 tanks in Estonia all the while they have **250** tanks in Kaliningrad.
We’ve gotten into taking our artillery to next level by buying (so far only) 12 South Korean K-9 Self Propelled Guns. We do have a lot of obsolete artillery and the new reform allows to pass our 122mm D-30’s with Finnish modifications to territorial defence force.
Still pretty far from that already too pessimistic article 7 years ago. We already had 136 Pasi APC-s then and since have gotten 44 CV-90 IFV/light tanks with extra 31 CV-90 platform based support vehicles.
Success of a mere infantry invasion wasn’t viable for Russia then and certainly isn’t now.
Next big step is going to be air-security. Right now we can’t do anything on that front other than trouble helicopters and have to rely on NATO alliance helping.
