Former FDA Chief Says Social Distancing Mandate ‘Wasn’t Based on Clear Science’

Former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said that the six-foot social distancing mandate that was employed across much of the United States and the world to deal with the CCP virus pandemic “wasn’t based on clear science.”

“This six-foot distancing requirement has probably been the single costliest mitigation tactic that we’ve employed in response to COVID … and it really wasn’t based on clear science. … We should have re-adjudicated this much earlier,” he said in an interview with CNBC.

Amid the relaxation of CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus guidelines—including one from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) saying it’s safe for schoolchildren to have three-foot distancing—Gottlieb suggested that masks may also be safely removed.

“We now know that the vaccines dramatically reduce your chance of both contracting COVID and becoming symptomatic to the point where you are going to have a bad outcome; we also know it reduces asymptomatic disease and reduces transmission … we are seeing that in the data,” he said.

Gottlieb also was asked about a public dispute between Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who also is a physician, about whether masks should be worn after a recipient is vaccinated for the CCP virus, which causes the disease COVID-19.

“You’re telling everyone to wear a mask,” Paul told Fauci, who has faced increasing pushback over his statements in the press. “If we’re not spreading the infection, isn’t it just theater? You have the vaccine and you’re wearing two masks, isn’t that theater?”

Fauci responded by saying that “masks are not theater” and that he “totally disagree[s]” with Paul’s statement.

Based on science my Butt.I worked in a Major University trauma Center and as a requierment to work there,Employees and Staff were requiered to take mandated courses issued by the CMS.

One of those courses was about Viruses. It turns out that when a person sneezes they discharge particles out to about 20 feet before they land on any thing. If your outdoors the particles can stay air born longer so they can carry along farther.

So the science that says that six feet is safer then twenty feet is B.S.

Ya’ gotta remember, many in the public sector are completely clueless about virology. Thd cdc advice is for the lowest common denominator of understanding.Plus...even the docs and virologists dont know everything. So we get incompletely informed “experts” trying to give pertinent accurate advice to people who don’t understand the perils they face. A toxic brew of miscommunication and chaos.

Herr is how ridiculously contrived this whole thing is.

https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2017/04/new-cdc-guidelines-flu-pandemic-measures-reflect-2009-lessons

The new guidance includes the following information about the CDC’s likely advice on the use of specific NPIs in a pandemic:

The CDC may recommend voluntary home quarantine for exposed household members of flu patients for up to 3 days.
The agency may recommend use of face masks as a “source control measure” for flu patients in crowded or close-contact settings during severe or extreme pandemics.
Well persons will not be advised to use face masks except in a few scenarios, such as pregnant women or other vulnerable people in crowded settings or people caring for patients at home.
The CDC may recommend preemptive school closures in severe or extreme pandemics, but in moderate pandemics the decision will be left to local authorities.
The agency may recommend social distancing steps (for example, that people keep at least 3 feet away from each other) during severe or extreme pandemics.
Environmental cleaning is recommended in all settings to eliminate flu viruses on frequently touched surfaces.

They made all this crap up as time went on...

And they are reverting to their original theories and recommendations

If your outdoors the particles can stay air born longer so they can carry along farther.

Meanwhile, especially during daytime, while outdoors the viruses are being denatured at a much more rapid rate, as well as being diffused away from people. The overall picture is much more complicated.

I suspect the main benefit from the masks (and glasses) is that it causes some people (the few that actually wear their properly fitting masks properly) who have touched contaminated surfaces from then touching their mouth or eyes. If children were substantial carriers, that’d be a good reason to keep the kids far enough apart that they weren’t touching adjacent desks when poking at each other or even when walking in and out of the classroom - but that appears to not be particularly relevant.

The masks themselves become concentrations of contamination by virtue of being a filter with air flow through it. As such, when they are taken off, they need to be treated as contaminated objects - even when you are alone in your car and home - and one needs to treat your adjacent face and your hands as contaminated after you remove them. That said, so very few people wear their masks properly, and when your mask slips around your face, you are simply wiping a contaminated surface back and forth across your face.
