Dogs are pack animals and must recognize the pack leader...does anyone believe old Slo Joe could fill that role??

Not sure I agree. My wife took in a stray pup, and we had no trouble with house breaking it, or with basic obedience. However, it looked to be part pit bull, and at times, especially around other dogs, it would get a glassy stare, and then just snap. We were considering putting it down, but it died of a heatstroke. Apparently, its heart was too small for its body mass, and couldn’t tolerate the hot summer weather.
