He was. But you can never keep the left happy...I remember years ago that pro-abortion groups in CA tried to get Horton Hears A Who (written in 1954) removed because it was thought that the line, “a person’s a person, no matter matter how small” was a secret anti-abortion message. It wasn’t, of course, since Dr. Suess was a complete liberal, but IIRC he had to make a statement that he hadn’t meant it “that way.”

He was a brilliant children’s book author, regardless of his political opinions, but the left is relentless.

Reading to two younger brothers, Seuss’s stories had too much whimsy and silliness for me. I felt vindicated when Seuss was later revealed as a hard Leftist.
