It’s kind of a fad, a way of feeling “special.”
Narcissism is like that, That “Special” feeling wears off after age 50 when one realizes that they are going to be alone in this world, without children and grandchildren, with dwindling friends and family, progressively dependent on Government which would just as soon see you dead. And without God, the prospect of impending death is... terrible
