Is Cassidy the replacement for a freshly elected Senator who suddenly died of Covid? I remember southern, but not sure if it was Louisiana.
Should a new country be formed?
“Got it on. Let’s get it on! Find out who the fighters are.”
There are only 6-8 Senators who can be considered to possibly be legitimate Senators.
Cruz, R-Texas
Hawley, R-Mo.
Hyde-Smith, R-Miss
Kennedy, R-Lou
Lummis, R-Wyo
Marshall, R-Kan
Tuberville, R-Ala
Scott, R-Fla
It is debatable if even these 8 are legitimate.
Cassidy is not the problem. It was Schoen and Castor. They SUCKED!!!! Big time!!! There is no denying this. POTUS 45 blew his top today over them, but he can’t fire them. Or maybe he can.
‘According to sources’
C’mon!
Pressure him to quit.
Yeah. I HATE it when that happens. And the PAPERWORK!
How did Blackburn vote on this?
The usual suspects.
Blackburn is not one of the 8 Senators who objected to the fraudulent Electoral College votes being certified.
I looked at his Wikipedia article. It claims that he "falsely" said that some of the Capitol invaders were not Trump supporters. Wikipedia cites the Washington Compost.
Have they played that one yet?
You sound like my wife who is a political novice. Because if you cheat and win you still won. Why is that so hard for people to digest? Happens all the time. Build a bridge and get over it. Either cheat better than the opposition or stop them from cheating but what's done is done!!
Thank you. Can’t watch, out on the road but thankful for the commentary and those watching.
VII. The Presiding Officer of the Senate shall direct all necessary preparations in the Senate Chamber, and the Presiding Officer on the trial shall direct all the forms of proceedings while the Senate is sitting for the purpose of trying an impeachment, and all forms during the trial not otherwise. specially provided for. And the Presiding Officer on the trial may rule on all questions of evidence including, but not limited to, questions of relevancy, materiality, and redundancy of evidence and incidental questions, which ruling shall stand as the judgment of the Senate, unless some member of the Senate shall ask that a formal vote be taken thereon, in which case it shall be submitted to the Senate for decision without debate; or he may at his option, in the first instance, submit any such question to a vote of the members of the Senate. Upon all such questions the vote shall be taken in accordance with the Standing Rules ofthe Senate.
With the exception of Rule XI, the rules are essentially unchanged since the impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson. Rule XI, was adopted May 28, 1935 pertaining to the Senate using a committee of 12 to receive testimony of witnesses before the whole body of the Senate gets tied up in an impeachment trial. The practice for decades has been that witnesses, if any, are presented to the committee, not the main body. The committee submits transcripts of testimony to the main body. The main body retains authority to depart from recent practice and hear witnesses not brought before the committee.
The Presiding Officer only casts a vote if he or she is a sitting member of the Senate, sworn in as a member of the impeachment court. Leahy is so sworn. If the position of Presiding Officer is filled by the Chief Justice, the Vice President, or another non-senator, they have no vote upon anything at an impeachment proceeding.
The fire extinguisher.
Amen. It’s a DISGRACE.
