Of all the things that have happened in the last five years, it is the concept that the Republican Party is in on all this has been the most disillusioning thing for me.

I have always accepted there were ostensible members of the Republican Party who were you knew were completely conservatively unreliable, but...you knew who they were if you paid attention. It might have been a quarter of them, but...you knew they were there.

It was when complete and total illegality was engaged in by the Left, in the FISA abuses, the spying on the Trump campaign, the political persecution of Flynn, Papadopoulos, and Page, all the way up to the tarring of the January 6, 2021 protesters, all these things, and...

You could count on your hands the number of Republicans who stood up to be counted, on the side of the Constitution, Morality, and the law.

It was then, through their silence if not open support of all the offenses, that I realized that they were all on board the gravy train, and didn’t want anyone to upset it.

That has been so disillusioning for me. And is also why the Republican party and the pathway to gaining any kind of conservative voice in the next ten years is in such peril: Conservatives are caught on the horns of a dilemma:

Many of us, millions, have seen these stabs in our back over the last five years, and have resolved to never vote for a Republican again. That isn’t me making it up because of what I read here on that subject, which is voluminous and intractable. I know a lot of conservatives even in my bluest of blue states who have conveyed just that sentiment to me.

And me to them.

That spells electoral doom for conservatism.

And then, there is the other horn of the dilemma, that there are millions of conservatives who are flat out going to refuse to vote at all, because they view that as a validation of a rigged process.

That spells electoral doom as well.

It is a tough spot. Of course, we can hope that the Left sticks to its guns as it appears it is going to do, and they will overreach so far that they will get politically slaughtered by people subjected to the hardships their policies are going to engender.

But we can’t depend on that. Rather than turning on the people who will have destroyed their livelihoods and lives, those former supporters (and many conservatives too...and already are) are far more likely to fall prey to the “Trump is Goldstein!” “Election Cycles of Hate” which is a staple of the Left.

We are in a tough spot.
