I remember hearing early on that it came from Haitian voodoo rights and contact with animal blood. Gays would vacation there.

Yeah thats what we heard as teens, but they said it was due to bestia,ity with monkeys, but as high-school kids, you don’t know that the whole truth is sometimes. Likely it was just fro eating infected monkeys,
