You are ‘smart’ to be taking Vit D .....

Note: The last two paragraphs are the ‘meat’ of the matter. The sentence is why Big Pharma in particular, ignores Vit D. Bill Gates will allow ZERO research on it with his money.

Vitamin D for influenza
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4463890/

I thank Dr Korownyk and colleagues for their interesting review on the neuraminidase inhibitors.1 Having spent some time looking at the reviews on these drugs myself, I agree that they are not very useful and the risk of causing harm is greater than the purported benefit. I no longer use them in my patients. Unfortunately, they are administered facility-wide in nursing homes as a public health measure when there is a reported outbreak of influenzalike illness or influenza. Working in long-term care settings, I have seen some of these patients and staff develop vomiting; some with serious diarrhea (also a known side effect); some with acute confusion, hallucinations, or delirium; and a number with worsening cognitive function. Having patients develop vomiting and diarrhea makes it difficult to know if there is a secondary outbreak in the facility of gastroenteritis. These side effects cause increased work for staff when this happens and are unpleasant for both staff and patients. I would suggest that these medications should no longer be stockpiled or used. This would result in tremendous savings in health care dollars.

On the other hand, it is well known that there is a seasonality to influenza that correlates well with the seasonal drop in vitamin D or 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels.2 Levels of 25(OH)D are quite low in nursing home residents, and supplementation with 2000 IU of vitamin D can bring levels to normal safely in most patients.3 The use of vitamin D as a prophylactic for influenza has shown promise in prevention of illness and reduction of secondary asthma in children.4 In this study there was benefit for influenza A but not influenza B or the common cold. The mechanism of how vitamin D works for influenza A has been described in the literature.5 Interestingly, the 25(OH)D levels identified in the recent Canadian Household Study have shown a drop in the average vitamin D level in Canadians over the past 5 years from about 67.7 nmol/L to 64 nmol/L, with one-third of those surveyed having levels below 50 nmol/L. Levels in the wintertime were considerably lower and would put the Canadian population at risk of a number of medical conditions.

The Institute of Medicine recommendation for adults younger than 70 years of age is 600 IU of vitamin D daily. We are told that this would achieve a level of 50 nmol/L in greater than 97.5% of individuals.6 Regrettably, a statistical error has resulted in erroneous recommendations by the Institute of Medicine leading to this conclusion and it might actually take 8800 IU of vitamin D to achieve this level in 97.5% of the population.7 This is a serious public health blunder.

A colleague of mine and I have introduced vitamin D at doses that have achieved greater than 100 nmol/L in most of our patients for the past number of years, and we now see very few patients in our clinics with the flu or influenzalike illness. In those patients who do have influenza, we have treated them with the vitamin D hammer, as coined by my colleague. This is a 1-time 50 000 IU dose of vitamin D3 or 10 000 IU 3 times daily for 2 to 3 days. The results are dramatic, with complete resolution of symptoms in 48 to 72 hours. One-time doses of vitamin D at this level have been used safely and have never been shown to be toxic.8 We urgently need a study of this intervention. The cost of vitamin D is about a penny for 1000 IU, so this treatment costs less than a dollar.

Said the UK. Can you read? Thule, and from Canada and many other directions, private, military and contractor. To and through 66 from points North. Many times to many locations, including London. Don’t assume, FRiend.

Don’t smoke or chew or go with the girls that do- but perhaps you do—it does affect mentation, word choices and a lot else. THC psychoactive component of cannabis sativa/marijuana/THC (US/UN Schedule 1) crosses the blood brain barrier and affects cognitive neurologic centers with dose dependent psychosis, especially in those with genetic predisposition to mental illness (you know, like in democrats small or big D, party wide, and uh John Boehner).

Now let’s get back to the comments regarding the “new” strain of “covid” (which isn’t) based on clinical symptoms.

Argue those, if you can- or not if you can’t. The said request does not assume anything about your knowledge or lack thereof on the subject.

I didn’t sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night but, different strain, different symptoms..............? Sound right to me. Just sayin’.

Ya THINK?!?!??

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Quarantine the sick. Protect the vulnerable. Free everyone else.

“Shorter aviation route to London from NY goes over Iceland. Seriously”

I’ve never flown that route and gone over Iceland. Always curves towards the North, but the furthest North is the Southern tip of Greenland.

Flights from the West coast (LA etc.) to Europe will go slightly further towards the Artic Circle, normally passing over Greenland.

Now you need to wear at least 3 masks to stop the virus. Next they will say to put a plastic bag over your head.

Its much deadlier, it only has a 99.5% survival rate compared to the 99.6% of current covid strain.

Just kidding, don’t
T know what it really is.

Flues are very often various kinds of viruses. They can have similar or different symptoms.

COVID-19 and its newer versions are very much effectively the same.

Jesus, you really need to learn to geography. If an airplane flies a great circle polar route to London, that doesn’t mean that London is in the Arctic Circle. London is NOT north of the Arctic Circle, nor is it anywhere close.

Ask any veterinarian with their experiences with Coronaviruses. They will tell you this virus is like trying to nail jello to the wall when it comes to vaccines. The human medical community is discovering the frustration that veterinarians have been experiencing for the past forty years.

Any comments on how much to take for general prophylaxis? I’ve ended up at 2500 IU per day, with a 5000 IU supplement every other day.

Yes, know this and these countries been there. Friend showed me the 66 line in Finland, stood on both sides of the line as a laugh.

Do wish posters would discuss my point instead of flight routes the bus drivers use. Pretty much anything from S. Ireland north imho are cold as hell. Thule without a doubt— coldest have ever been.

My point was clinical— the symptoms could be experienced from anything and not neccesarily any “new” strain which would still a coronavirus, as a mutation.

Again thanks for the links. Get any more corrections and will post the numerous clinically supported, peer reviewed professional journal trials cited and a whole lot else— that have been posting to try to help people avoid any coronavirus infection. Apparently no one ever read anything that was posted— except the hundreds who did, and who remain infection free (even those working daily with positive infected hospitalized patients).

Thanks.

The flu is caused by the Influenza virus, which is one of several all belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family of viruses.

COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2, which is a singular virus in the Coronaviridae. While it has multiple variants, all are the same virus.

The virus which causes COVID-19 and the family of viruses which cause the seasonal flu are not even remotely related. SARS-CoV-2 belongs to the Pisuviricota phylum, which includes includes all positive-strand and double-stranded RNA viruses. Influenza virus belongs to the Negarnaviricota phylum, which includes the viruses that have negative-sense, single-stranded genomes made of RNA.

As I said before, SARS-CoV-2 is as closely related to Influenza as humans are to snails. They share the same kingdom, but not even the same phylum.

We have two safe and effective vaccines approved for use already which cover all known variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus with 95% protection, which is the same level of effectiveness we have with the smallpox vaccine. There’s a third vaccine around the corner (Johnson & Johnson) and many others in the pipeline. All within a year.

I don’t see a lot of frustration going around.

The first two variants of COVID-19 had an Infection Fatality Rate of 0.65%, or a 99.35% survival rate. If this new variant actually turns out to be 30% more deadly, that would give it an IFR of ~0.845%. Which would put its survival rate at about 99.16%.

Worth noting and paying attention to. Still not worth any panic.

I’m following Dr. Samadi’s recommendation. He’s a conservative doc who is on NewsMax

Boost your immune system: 5000 IU of Vitamin D3 with 100 MCG of Vitamin K2 400 MG of Magnesium 1000 MG of Vitamin C 50 MG of Zinc Every day! Let’s stay healthy during the flu season! Talk to your doctor first to make sure.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

On a personal note, I normally take 5,000 IU daily anyway to keep chronic urticaria (hives) under control - works very well for me & keeps me off of anihistamines. Sunday, I was in close proximity to a relative who, as of Monday evening, is on a 10-day quarantine after a co-worker he was in close proximity with last week, tested positive for WuFlu on Monday. I have bumped my Vit D to 20K IU for the next 2 weeks. From all I’ve seen/read, if you’re 30K daily & under, not toxic.
