A last-ditch effort to persuade President Donald Trump to issue a pre-emptive pardon to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is reportedly being blocked by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, according to reports.
A high-level source in the Trump administration reported to Breitbart News that while the President is sympathetic to pardoning Assange, Cipollone is not — and the continued opposition of the White House counsel is making a pardon increasingly unlikely.
Trump could still overrule Cipollone if he wished – he has the legal authority to do so – but it appears that the President continues to heed the latter’s advice.
In a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, the establishment newspaper praised Cipollone for reining in President Trump in the closing days of his administration, “when the easier route would be to resign to outside applause.”
Condemning President Trump’s recent words and behavior, the Journal praised officials like Cipollone for putting the brakes on the President.
“Every official has to search his conscience amid Mr. Trump’s actions, and outside moral judgment is easy and often wrong. Many good people are trying to prevent more bad decisions,” said the Journal.
Outside of the administration, high-profile conservatives and Republicans have urged President Trump to pardon Julian Assange.
These voices include Tucker Carlson, who once again urged the President to trust his instincts in a segment that aired yesterday.
Assange’s primary crime, said Carlson, was “humiliating the powerful.”

Trump has nothing to lose at this point...Let ‘er RIP!
He should pardon Julian Assange and Edward Snowden. Got to youTube for Joe Rogan with Ed Snowden to hear what Snowden has to say.
You’re not still waiting for the stupid “Kraken” to be released, are you?
If Trump reports McConnell, McConnell, can be convicted for doing a quid pro quo because that is what this is! I dont get this whole impeachment BS, Trump will be a private citizen tomorrow, you cannot try a private citizen in the Senate for anything
Trump should tell McConnell to go pack sand. First, I'm doubtful that 2/3 of the Senate would vote to convict, but even if they did, it wouldn't matter. Impeaching a private citizen is likely unconstitutional, and as much as folks would love him too, I don't think Trump will run in 2024, as he'll be 78 by then -- 79 shortly after taking office.
It's time for everyone -- Trump included -- to stand up to McConnell and tell him his days are numbered.
Well, I don’t know about your list, but Laura’s been on my nasty list for years.
Just heard on Tucker that McConnell is threatening impeachment in the Senate if President Trump pardons Assange.
Does P. J. O’Rourke still have his nose stuck in a rum bottle?
It was always the plan to have Sydney address the election fraud in long term. Still, we have plenty of evidence on that already. However, no one expected that the republican leadership would stab the Trump movement in the back as it did, which accelerated the short-circuit of the review of that evidence.
Another deepstate plant stopping Trump from exposing the deepstate.
Grant the pardons at 11:59 AM tomorrow and let them have their shampeachment.
“ I think Trump is President.”
Think again. He’s made some terrible ‘non-calls’ the past year that led to his political demise...
- Not replacing the NIH dinosaur twins (Fauci/Birx) early on when they adhered to stupid Covid projections.
- Not replacing the utterly incompetent CDC Director
- Not firing Wray 2 years ago after Muller finished.
- Not getting DHS ready to cyber monitor digital election fraud so as to have ready made governmental evidence to present to courts to secure warrants and indictments.
So much more one can add...
Trump needs to call McConnell’s bluff and do it anyway..McConnell is a snake and should be impeached because this is the definition of a quid pro quo
Three people who were perfectly rationale suddenly turn into nutters raving about global conspiracies right when clear evidence of vote fraud at the actual precinct level were emerging. Smells a lot like someone conviced them all to create a distraction, make claims of election fraud look like just a crazy conspiracy theory ... until it’s too late.
I think Cippilone is riding for a fall.
In any case he seems to have settled down in his old age.
He is very funny, but too libertarian for my taste which is why I think he didn't like Trump: O'Rourke is definitely a freetraitor who hates tariffs.
Conviction=prison?
President Trump could write “I pardon Assange” on a postcard, sign and date it, and it would be constitutional.
What trial and when? People keep repeating this nonsense. Trump is out of office at noon tomorrow.
Who are they going to impeach? Impeachment is for removal from office which we will not have after noon tomorrow.
