Griffith University’s Dr Peta-Anne Zimmerman says the Queensland government’s proposal to implement hotel quarantine for international travellers at remote facilities such as mining camps, “would take a lot of strategic planning and risk assessment”.
“The human resources required is massive … and equally if we move to mining camps, the human resources implications are massive there as well,” she told Sky News host Chris Smith.
Dr Zimmerman said the mining camp communities “would not be able to provide” the people needed for the quarantine efforts and another solution is needed.
"The communities from where these mining camps are would not be able to provide that level of human resources, so it would have to be the moving of people from other areas into those areas.”

And so it begins.
Ping
And they’ll be transported by boxcars.
I don’t know what you are worried about. It’s just camp, that you pay for with some labour. 🥺
I would suggest that the bulk of int’l travelers would just give up on Australia for the next two or three years. Hotels, tours...all this foreign cash flow would just dry up.
I spent around 17 days in Australia in 2017...great place and I’d be willing to do a return trip some day. If you said I get picked up at the airport and do 10 days in some mining camp quarantine deal? Well...no. That just won’t work. It’d probably end up as a Mad Max-type movie.
History may not repeat itself. But it rhymes.
Especially since I only get two weeks off.
But how long before this or a similar idea is proposed for Aussies?
And in the meantime, however many internationals still get sent to these?
Given she is talking about a massive effort, they are planning on sending numerous boxcars of people to various places described.
And of coarse don’t forget your 10-day quarantine once you get back to the States. (Well some states probably are still doing that. Hawaii??)
If you get back.
That’s not bad. I’d get a three week vacation package.
14 days in Alaska yet.
IOW, return Aussie travelers, international travelers get sent to these, but how long before infected Aussies who have traveled nowhere get sent to these?

Welcome to Australia. Here’s your shovel.
Let’s collaborate on the travel brochures...
I really do think I’m having a nightmare when I see authorities gleefully talking about transporting people to camps.
Oh, brother, get a grip. These are camps Australians already freely live and work at. It’s like Ellis Island quarantining immigrants to prevent disease from being introduced to the mainland, only in this case the international travelers aren’t going to settle in the country, just visit. And, these travelers include 1st class passengers, etc., so they’re not going to be working in mines.
I get it but it’s still eerie. Buy the way I’ve got a grip. On my carbine.
