We’ve reached “Catch 22”, only a crazy person would want to run for office in the first place. So the fact somebody even wants to run, should automatically disqualify them.

The problem is the power of incumbency. A sitting Senator has nearly unlimited resources as compared to most challengers.
O’Rourke against Cruz is not typical of most races. The left from all the wealthy enclaves in the nation flooded that guys campaign with more cash than most challengers could even dream of.
