Right. I’m in the same boat. There are others that need the money, and I don’t.
But the government can’t solve wealth inequities - the government is more often the cause.
The best way to solve wealth inequities is through free market capitalism - and private altruism. You and I invest our wealth, creating jobs and opportunities. You and I make charitable donations to people in need, without involving the government.
Taking whatever money the government sends you is a win-win for true social justice:
1) It is less money spent on government meddling and destruction.
2) You are free to give it to someone in need.
3) Your investments create jobs and improve standard of living.
Nuts!
Can’t we just get rid of the whole lythithan and start over?
I don’t see it in “wealth inequity” terms but in terms of the Fifth Amendment- the “Takings clause”.
Others have lost income because of the government. They deserve just compensation.
I haven’t and don’t.
And I’m not a charity guy, I just pay more to those who help me.
Thank God. I said he should Veto and demand 2500 minimum but he should also point out where the money could easily come from. Oh well, at least the VETO threat is out there.
Since the bill has the votes to override, dragging it out is probably the most he can do. Who knows? There seems to be a growing backlash, so maybe it will be enough to deter an override and motivate Congress to go back to the table.
Veto it anyway
The beltway sewer rats want Trump’s name on the military base renaming commission.
Disagree here. Credit where its due. This is pretty much how I would message it. I said as much earlier if you check my history. I won’t sign anything less than $2500 per person. I would have pointed out, as Rush did today, where thr money is actually going and how that could easily be diverted to AMERICANS. This kills the bill and makes it the fault of those who would see billions go overseas instead of to Americans. Agree that the number should be 0 and every business should be opened immediately but that’s not the situation right now. Good play with the hand he’s dealt.
Good, let them override. No one can later try to out flank Trump claiming to be a deficit hawk.
Let them. Do it! Veto, read the boondoggle to the people and let the “representatives “ Veto it. Nothing, NOTHING would make America first more powerful.
Just listened to his actual statement and it was glorious. Exactly what I was hoping for. He listened thr crap in it...how can the country lose this man?
So if you get a check are you going to send it back?
I’ll get a check.
I’ll pay extra to the people I know that help me out.
I assume you’ll help no one.
What the Democrats do is pull out of EVERY bottom desk drawer in EVERY Democrat Representative and Senator’s office EVERY “pork” spending bill they want to pass.
They add them to EVERY spending bill that is offered in the hope that some/ALL of their HOPIUM spending will be signed into law.
Democrats have been working on these spending plans for YEARS!
AND, they have had five months to put this monstrosity together!
I sent President Trump an email a few minutes ago asking him to please VETO this bill. You can too! Go to https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ and send President Trump your own VETO message!
In 1983, the Reagan administration, Republicans and Democrats agreed that to “save Social Security” tax payers should process a work sheet to see if they had enough income to require them to pay taxes on their SS payments. A deduction was allowed of $25,000 for single people and $32,000 for couples. Now, 37 years later what do you think it is?? $60,000 for singles, and $70,000 for couples???? NO, NO, NO!!!, it is still only $25 and $32 thousand. So now much lower income retirees are forced to pay taxes on their already earned and taxed SS “benefit.” This is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! If you don’t believe me check the CPI calculator and see how lower middle income retirees are being robbed, and have been for many years.
“I assume you’ll help no one.“
You know absolutely nothing about me other than what I’ve told you - and yet you assume the worst? That’s pathetic.
It can't go into January. If the legislation is not signed, or the veto overridden by January 2nd, then the legislation is dead and it has to be done over again. In the mean time the government is shut down, unemployment for millions ends, money for vaccine distribution isn't there, Perdue's latest campaign commercial bragging about the COVID relief is ruined, and two senate seats may be lost. How enraged will people be then?
The rent and mortgage protection is about to expire. Businesses and people are about to face a real crisis and RATS want to give millions for chopdicktomy surgery in Pakistan? WTH! Didn't they recently execute a gay man there?
I'm not sure of that. Constitutionally the President has 10 days, Sundays excepted, to review a bill and sign it or else it becomes law. The clock starts running when the bill is passed, which was Monday, so if I'm calculating this right then if the president doesn't sign then it becomes law on January 2nd. One day before the end of the legislative session. As you pointed out, McConnell is keeping the Senate in pro-forma session so I don't see where a pocket veto is an option. Or a threat as the case may be.
The rent and mortgage protection is about to expire. Businesses and people are about to face a real crisis and RATS want to give millions for chopdicktomy surgery in Pakistan? WTH! Didn't they recently execute a gay man there?
This is an omnibus bill. It provides COVID relief and it funds the government as well. Under the last COVID relief illegal aliens did not get stimulus checks, and they aren't getting them under this bill. Whatever other funding they may be getting was provided under the part that funds the government. So no, I don't think the Democrats will have any problems at all hanging this solely on the Republicans.
