I have a lot of friends that work in the service industry. Restaurant owners, managers, bartenders, cooks, and servers. Even the black bartenders and waiters do not want to serve black people. They know they don’t tip.
The Wire had a good scene in Season 4 where a former sergeant takes 3 kids from his special ed class to Ruth Chris in Downtown Baltimore. You can take the kid out of the ghetto but not the ghetto out of the kid.
My sister teaches math at a boarding school in inner city Baltimore. The problem is the kids go home Friday and Saturday nights and stay at the school the other five nights. So they have to de-ghettoize the kids five days after they get re-ghettoized at home for two days.
It usually takes the first two months of the new school year to reverse the ghetto indoctrination the kids get during summer break.
I feel for the kids. They have to “go ghetto” to survive at home. Then they have to act civilized at school to get ahead.
Many of them simply cannot do it. Then they go twerk on tabletops at fancy restaurants.
