Scientism? I like to refer to it as Scientology.

My wife used to watch that show “Army Wives” a few years ago. Jill Biden was a guest on the show and it sounded so silly when the actresses had to address her as “Dr. Biden”. Ugh — another lefty pompous ass.

Only of they start calling the Cos, Dr Bill.
He’s got the same degree from arguably a better school.

"Doctor" Elena Ceausescu.
![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/1975_Elena_Ceausescu_Honoris_Causa_Manilla.jpg)
Elena was not only jealous of those women who were better looking or more stylish than she, but of anyone with more education. At the end of her life, however, she was a PhD in chemistry, and was the author of many scholarly papers on the subject. However, the real story is that she paid off/coerced noted scientists to write her doctorate and other papers.
Those few who refused found themselves never receiving a promotion again or teaching classes in the provinces. Though it was an open secret that Elena Ceausescu never did any of her own work/research, no one, either within Romania or internationally, called her on it – she was the wife of the most powerful man in the country whose nation did millions of dollars in business internationally.
She was also the head of many different government departments having to do with the sciences. In her role as the head of the countries sciences, she gained a nickname, and not a flattering one: “Codoi,” which is the Romanian pronunciation of the abbreviation of CO². “CO” for “Carbon-Oxygen” and “doi”, the Romanian for “two”.

Education is the 2nd easiest major in college. Journalism is the easiest. Doesn’t say much for a “doctorate” in education.

Well, she did get a Doctorate Degree. However, other than Shelton on "Big Bang Theory" TV show very few introduce themselves as Doctor so and so unless in an academia setting.
Also, the norm is when writing, they put the PhD or EdD at the end of their name when signing the correspondence. They don't start with Dr. Jill Hiden.
She is obviously an egoist. She reminds me of Senator Boxer dressing down some witness after he said Madam.

A Phd or Edd holder wanting to be addressed as “doctor” is just silly. I have a social sciences Phd and am a tenured professor. Nobody in my discipline wants to be called doctor. Insecurity indeed.

My suggestion to Jill is that she request that she not be address as “Doctor”. That she only wants to be thought of as someone who tries to be helpful.
To: SJackson
“Doctor” is the appropriate title for virtually any person with a Ph.D.
Just because Doctor of Education is the garbage degree at that level (and, yes, there is science to education, just liberals are as confused about that as they are about bathrooms) does not mean a doctorate is worthless for any discipline but medicine.
FWIW, I have returned to school after 30 years of software development to pursue a M.D. Currently double-majoring in math and biology as an undergrad.

....usually the demand to be called “Doctor” when one is not an M.D. suggests insecurity or unseemly vanity.....
Unless one has a hard-earned Ph.D., as I do!!!!
My university students ALWAYS knew to call me “Doctor”, without my asking!!!! The exceptions were the graduate students who worked with me in the lab, with whom I was on a first-name basis. This is standard throughout academia, and in industry as well.
Should EdDs be called “Doctor”? I think not!!!!
The other issue is those people who think that only those who have delivered a child should be called “Doctor”. Well, nurse midwives deliver babies on a regular basis, and (unlike MD ob/gyns) are never called “Doctor”! Nevertheless, this does not get jill biden off the hook!!
