Days after President-elect Joe Biden was declared the victor in the White House race, the vote in Arizona remains too close to call and the margin is narrowing.

Biden leads President Trump by less than 15,000 votes statewide, with about 60,000 ballots still listed as uncounted on Tuesday by the secretary of state. That includes more than 20,000 ballots ready for tallying, tens of thousands of provisional ballots left to process and about 4,200 mail ballots with signatures that need to be verified....

Data: 20,000 ready to count, about 40,000 provisionals to verify, and 4,200 mail ins "with signatures" that still need verification, according to the Arizona SoS. As of Tuesday in Maricopa county, there are 13,500 mail ins to count with 2,300 mail in ballots needing verification along with 8,200 provisionals needing verification, according to Megan Gilbertson of the county elections dept.

the rest of the article describes the Dem efforts to push voters to cure signatures or produce ID by 5pm deadline today, including a door-knocking campaign. I sure hope our efforts are equal or better than. And if they're not, we need to watch and learn to get better at it.

no clue. The article hyperlink in this article does single out states, but doesn’t get down to the brass tacks. The worst states were CA and NY, with “Florida, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin” also mentioned. The article does note that the reject rate of the primary election was about twice that of the 2016 General election. And offers it’s because “the ease of casting a ballot from home also means more opportunities for people to make mistakes in filling out the forms..”

The counting is not done and then the results need to be certified...and then the actual presidential election will occur via the Electoral College.

There were cases in Allegheny Co (Pittsburg), where Republicans who tried to vote in person on election day were told that they had either voted by mail requested a mail in ballot.

If they didn't surrender the mail in ballot, which they hadn't recieved, then they had to vote provisionally.

The fact that they are provisional implies there is some question regarding their validity.

For example, let’s say you had sent a mail-in ballot, but you were not sure if it was in the system, so you went to the poll to check - and vote if need be - on Election Day.

My understanding is that the poll workers would check the system - and if they could find no record of your vote in the system - enter a provisional ballot.

If I understand this right, the “provisional” ballot is a ballot entered with a flag - subject to review - to make sure you don’t vote twice.

So yes, provisional ballots are, by definition, questionable.

Can't make it by Dec 14 ? Gee that's too bad, but don't worry the U,S. Constitution has you covered under Article II, so the Legislature will just have to pick the slate of electors, just like what is about to happen in PA, WI, MI and GA.
