Darrell Issa is back
The Hill ^ | 11/07/20 08:28 PM EST | BY OLIVIA BEAVERS

Rep. Darrell Issa (R) is returning to Capitol Hill to represent California’s 50th Congressional District, after being projected to defeat his Democratic opponent Ammar Campa-Najjar.

Issa will replace former Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), who resigned following a series of legal woes, including the Justice Department charging him with wire fraud, falsifying campaign finances reports, prohibited use of campaign contributions and conspiracy to commit offenses.

Issa previously served in California’s 49th District for more than a decade, which neighbors the 50th. By 2016, he faced a tough path to reelection in what was becoming an increasingly Democratic district, in part because of redistricting. His new district encompasses some of his old stomping grounds.

Issa, the former chairman of the Oversight and Reform Committee, left the House in early January 2019, after choosing not to seek reelection. President Trump had tapped him to lead the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, but the nomination stalled in committee in the Senate. Hunter’s legal woes led Issa to eye a return to Congress.

Wow I didn’t know all that about Duncan Hunter. I missed all that somehow.

I guess because I thought there was no GOP at all left in CA by now.

The way CA ensures a permanent Dem majority is their sneaky proposition style by the way. Any errors in their legislature are reversed by proposition and then they aren’t blamed for those errors.

I never really hated him even though he was a reliable vote for leadership...

He was good at holding Obama admin to account

Issa has been up by 6%+ since election night. It was never really close, but the left was hoping Duncan Hunter’s scumbaggery would turn some voters against Republicans. They were also hoping to harvest enough votes to flip the seat, but couldn’t get it done. Socialist Najjar tried to pose as an “independent”, but most voters saw through him. Still, 7% is very close for east county San Diego. Should have been double digits.

But notice how they still haven’t called Alaska, I think they are trying to stead another Senate seat and refuse to give the electoral votes to Trump.

This wasn’t a flip. I think we are only up a net of +5 or +6 so far. There are still a few more D seats that look like they might flip, so we will likely hit +9 or +10 net.

If I remember correctly, Issa was instrumental in getting Cali Governor Gray Davis recalled. Which then opened the door for Arnold, who wasn’t much better.

Alaska is counting very slowly, GOP% have barely budged, I can’t imagine Trump, Sullivan, or Young are in any Danger of losing.

Not thrilled he abandoned his seat 2 years ago to turn around and run in this more Republican one.

Beggars can’t be choosers though, his main GOP foe was that gay guy, and this rat is a terrorist.

My nephew’s wife in Carlsbad is livid with Issa winning. I have no sympathy for her. (besides, she’s really an immature potty mouth who swallowed the “Russian collusion” hoax hook, line and sinker, then Left Facebook when the hoax was totally unmasked.
