From (13:16) on whether Democrats will move to make DC a state should they win:
Sen. Rand Paul "Giving a medium-sized city two senators would really be a slap in the face of every other state. Historically, this was an idea when I was a kid, they were talking about this in the 70's and 80's they said, "lets make DC a state". The reason it was never a reality is Democrats you know, who were self-respecting proud representative's of states thought they would be skewered if they actually voted for a tiny little city to have the same power as their state.. I mean think if you're from Texas, California or New York no self-respective representative would think "Im going to give the same power to a little state" but it's not about that anymore... They don't really care about the disproportionate power they only care about the power of partisan politics so now I think the Democrats will do it. I think it is better than 50/50 chance that they will try and make it a state.
The one thing about DC though is I think it will be held up by the courts for a while that's why frankly a Supreme Court that leans more [towards] law abiding I think they may read the constitution and say there may be some problems with making DC a state but the interesting thing is - a lot of people don't realize this - most of the states that have come in have come in by simple statute, simple majority so well see what happens but it's another thing that alarms me."

It is unconstitutional without Maryland’s consent, of course.
I think at least the residential areas of DC should be returned to Maryland.
And will make Cuba, South America, Puerto Rica and any other land mass in the Western side of the world in order to get a Democratic aka Demoncratic one party country.
Rand says in the discussion he would be for that..
And if GOP wins they should hand back all but the central Federal district that is not inhabited back to Maryland. The DC citizens get a Congress district from Maryland, and their 2 Senators. Problem solved.
Oh yeah, and give Puerto Rico independence. Whether they want it or not.
Nope. Too many advantages to the current situation.
Let’s make NYC a state, too. And Chicago. And how about LA. Makes just as much sense.
The people of DC should vote in the states from which the district was carved.
Rand also says he thinks Puerto Rico should be a country.
If they are going to hand out green cards to anyone crossing the border we may as well annex Honduras and save them the trip. :)
What would it take to do that?
That works, reduce DC to just the immediate area around the key Federal Buildings (White House, Capital, Supreme Court buildings) - a small number of blocks, return the rest to Maryland works for me.
We our President is re-elected, hopefully we have both houses of Congress, we should push this through along with independence for PR/VI. Clearing the decks of these silly risks of statehood for things that should never be states.
This needs to be done. A preemptive strike...
Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me for them to want to do that. One of my FB “friends” posted something that shows that the population of Los Angeles County is the same as seven upper Midwestern states, yet California has only 2 senators and those seven states have fourteen. The gist of it is that the set-up isn’t fair or truly representative, but it also shows ignorance, I guess, of why and how the framers of the Constitution set up the Senate. Not that the Constitution matters to them, especially when it keeps them from enhancing their power.
Cede it back to Maryland just like the Virginia area was previously ceded back to Virginia.
from Article 4:
Section 3
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Another huge welfare population
RE: Rand Paul: Democrats WILL make DC a state if they win the Election
Yep, that’s the plan. Puerto Rico too.
We need a Constitutional Amendment: 50 states and 9 Supreme Court justices.
