The Trump administration walked back federal protections for renters in early October, even though rent moratoriums were still in effect, which allowed property owners and operators to begin the eviction process for millions of people as tens of billions of dollars in back rent is coming due.
In early September, the CDC published new, temporary guidelines to halt evictions because of the virus pandemic. The public health agency said:
The CDC, located within the HHS announces the issuance of an Order under Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act to temporarily halt residential evictions to prevent the further spread of COVID-19... This Order is effective September 4, 2020, through December 31, 2020.
Before the eviction moratorium went into effect on September 4, there was a 72-hour lapse, allowing landlords to evict non-paying tenants. Reuters interviewed Latrise Bean, 35, who was one of the unfortunate people evicted during that time from her Milwaukee apartment.
Bean, who works at a software company, like millions of other Americans, had their working hours reduced by of the virus-induced economic downturn - now with an eviction on her record, making it more difficult to find a rental, she is now living at a temporary housing unit in a neighborhood even worse than the one before with her five-year-old daughter.
"I feel so unlucky," said Bean. "I have really been through it."

And all the landlords are eeeevil capitalists, right?/s
Rat Governors need to pay for this.
I finally got an eviction order on one of my tenants this week. That CDC order is only for non payment of rent. You can get an eviction for breaking ant other part of the lease.
Rat Governors need to pay for this
Exactly!
Just like in WA; 1200 or so COVID deaths, mainly in two counties and Inslee shuts down the whole state of 7.5 million; jobs gone, businesses folded .... bankruptcies, house foreclosures ... suicides.
As long as it aint TRUMP who cares
Gee, despite the ongoing attempts by Democrat/Left/Communist governors to cancel the Constitution and much to their chagrin, private property rights can be a real b!tch when those basic rights are respected.
1/3 of all mortgages are supposedly in forbearance...
when all those end, look out!
My in-laws recently evicted someone for having a dog breed banned in the lease. Just to back up your last sentence. I think the tenants were deadbeats as well, but they did not bring that up in the eviction proceedings.
I did about 8 years as a landlord. It’s practically impossible to evict a tenant or to get them to pay rents owed if they decide to skip. Never do that again. And most of the tenants thought it was their G*d given right to use up their security deposit as their last month’s rent before skipping.
This is the fault of democrap governors or local officials (such as my city) who failed to open up their state or local economies. ITS ON THEM>
Then I find out the guy at the sheriff’s department that does the evictions is quarantined for 14 days.
How many rentals are owned by DiFi and other libs?
Look out for what?
I lived in an 8 apt. rental and knew the landlord who was a good guy and helped me out when I was a little short/late. The BS he had to put up with true deadbeats and the municipality was mind boggling.
I bet the property taxes on the landlords will still come due as usual.
If you evict all the non-paying tenants, where will you get new ones from? If you are in a specific market niche, nearly all your potential tenants are going to be people who were just evicted.
I would imagine there will be a lot of workouts instead, since the existing tenants are a known quantity.
TRUMP’S FAULT!
</unnecessary sarcasm tag>
You can get a 60day order if 1 months rent is given as compensation in CA.
