Biggest lie of the night? Joe Biden says no one lost their health insurance under Obamacare ... Seriously, Joe?

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told a brazen lie about Obamacare Thursday evening during the final presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee, claiming that no one lost their private health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.

President Donald Trump attacked Biden's health care plan, accusing the Democratic nominee's plan of being "socialized medicine" that would terminate "180 million" private insurance plans.

In response, Biden said that if the Supreme Court declares Obamacare unconstitutional he will pass new health care legislation "with a public option." He declared his support for private health insurance, arguing that a public option would increase competition by giving private health insurance plans something to compete against.

Then he told a whopper.

"The reason why I had such a fight with 20 candidates for the nomination was I support private insurance," Biden said. "Not one single person with private insurance would lose their insurance under my plan, nor did they under Obamacare. They did not lose their insurance unless they chose they wanted to go to something else."

Biden's claim is demonstrably false. After the Affordable Care Act took effect in 2013, more than 5 million Americans received cancellation letters from their insurance companies, informing them that the health insurance plans they had did not meet the standards of Obamacare.

President Obama's promise that "if you like your health care pan, you can keep your health care plan" was rated as PolitiFact's Lie of the Year in 2013.

"So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama's breezy assurances were wrong," Politifact wrote.

In fact, NBC News reported in 2013 that the Obama administration knew that millions of Americans would lose their health insurance under Obamacare. While the Affordable Care Act had a provision that allowed for some health insurance polices to be "grandfathered" in, meaning consumers could keep their plans even if they didn't meet the essential benefits mandates required by Obamacare, the provision was written so narrowly that many of the plans didn't qualify.

At the debate, Biden promised that his plan to expand Obamacare with a public option would also reduce insurance premiums. But the Obama administration made similar claims about Obamacare, and the truth was that Obamacare significantly increased health insurance premiums by as much as 24.4% beyond what they would have been if costs rose naturally, according to one study.

Many individuals who remember having their insurance plans cancelled spoke out on social media.

I had a great family plan before Obamacare
I paid about $6,000 per year and had little out of pocket expenses.

The new Obamacare plan would have cost me $12,000 per year with a $6,000 deductible. That means I needed to spend $18,000 out of pocket (after taxes) each year BEFORE they paid one cent.

I have gone without health care since then, and estimate I saved well over $100,000, and that includes 2 hospitalizations for myself and my daughter during that time, and all dental paid in cash by me.

The veterans in the VA medical system were all put under Obamacare and veterans started dying...we had poor care and it was difficult to get any due to Obamas new rules...

Thats why it was so great when President Trump made the changes and started Choice...the difference was night and day...

Veterans were included in the number of those using Obamacare...

Ask the Vets how they liked socialized medicine before Trump started to clean it up.

I lost MY insurance policy over ObamaCare . . . tho only a supplemental policy which had been funded partly by my pre-retirement employer. Medicare, of course, is primary. I got another policy which theoretically is also employer-subsidized - but I never got a cent from the system they set up.

I suppose I’m lucky, it only cost me around 1.5K additional per year . . .

Here is the twist of wording: “Not one single person with private insurance would lose their insurance...”

What his really comes down to is the word “their” - Joe means lose what was provided them under Obamacare; most of us understood this meant what we wanted to keep (what we had chosen).

Well I did. My policy was cancelled. The replacement policy didn’t cover anywhere as much as the one I lost and it cost me more than 4 times as much.

Lying sack of s^^t!

I lost my good insurance plan with our company. I had to settle for more expensive plan which covered a lot less. And I was lucky I still had something.
Few months later, I went for some test in hospital. They asked me, if I still have my insurance. I told them, sorry, due to Obamacare, I now have this one.
They told me, oh, yes, we are getting this from many, many other patients!
People have kind of forgotten now, but Obamacare was a bloodbath for company sponsored plans.

I remember with vivid clarity that THE DAY AFTER Obamacare passed my husband got the cancellation notice from our insurance company.

I pretty much refuse to go to the doctor, since 0bamacare came in. We are in a small group, and trying to keep our claims as low as possible, to keep renewal premiums as low as possible.

Deductible went to something like $6,000 + or -, every year since 0bamacare. Our office works in the employee benefits field, and I hear them quoting premiums of sometimes over $20,000 per year for family coverage. This is the Midwest. People do not earn enough to afford the premiums. Our state has only one carrier for individual coverage. It has been a nightmare.

IIRC, obama "care" not only cost millions of working Americans their private healthcare, it also took a major toll in jobs.

Again, IIRC, much of the cost burden was shifted to employers and the only way for them to stay in biz was to reduce the hours of lots of workers or to let them go.

Same here,
I have a large family (wife and 8 kids) I had to come up with $72,000 deductable before insurance (which I lost to obummercare) would cover a penny. I only made 35k a year.
Even now, my employer has kept the obummercare policy and my check is up to 38k a year.

obama to Biden in his vetting process. Joe, are you a liar?
Biden: No, I am not.
obama: You are hired as my VP.
Biden: Can I take bribes and shakedown people for money?
obama: Why of course you can.
