After seeing my uncle’s semi auto 12 ga shotgun, Remington 1100 I think, jam a couple of times, I never liked semi auto again.

Ditto, except for AK.

You would like an AK.

AK always goes "BANG".

Loose action. Throw it in the mud for a year, pull it out, it goes "BANG".

Just don't try bump firing it for "full auto". It will jam. It needs to be held firmly for the action to work.

No. The Romanian wood (other than laminate) is pretty crappy. There are sources for wooden Russian furniture. Some pretty stuff.

Probably planted for a walnut crop. Synthetics are more economical for gunstocks, at this point.

There are usually 2 reasons a semi-auto shotgun jams. Slow ammo and rimlock. The minimum speed I have ever seen spec'd for an AR-12 is 1250, but it is easy to find idiots on Youtube grabbing 1200, saying it is close enough, and then bitzing when it jams. It needs the speed for the action. Easy solution, dont buy anything slower than 1250 and you wont be tempted to be an idiot and jam the gun because of your own actions.

The second biggest cause of AR-12 jamming is Rimlock, and it happens usually when people try to use a speed loader. If you get the rim behind the shell beneath it in the magazine, it will physically block the shell from loading.

The 3rd most common one I have seen, and only on really cheap AR-12s, is over insertion of the magazine. I was watching one last night where it took the guy about 100 rounds, but he figured out his jamming problem was because he smacked the magazine in like he would an AR-15, but when the chamber was open he saw the magazine was too high. He changed his method of inserting the magazine and stopped the jamming.

Interesting info thanks.

I’m not against semi auto, just not a big fan. Pump shotgun and lever action rifle do everything I need. Right now both my rifles (Marlin .22 and Mauser .243) are bolt, no such thing as fast, but I doubt I’ll ever need either for home defense.

I like a revolver quite well, but way expensive these days, I went with a Taurus G2C 9mm. Did recently get a 22 six shooter, pretty good so far but have only fired about 20 rounds. 3 inch group, not bad...

I’ve heard that about the AK. Used for military in several places, that’s probably why, takes a lot of abuse and still goes bang.

Kinda like my old pump shotgun, clean it once or twice a year and it’s always dependable. But when I didn’t bother for about 3 years, leaned up in a corner untouched, it still worked perfect when I needed it.

Now if I want really reliable, single shot shotgun. Hard to kill those things...

Then there’s the unconventional...like my trusty Ben Pearson 30lb recurve bow...not fast, but after one shot you won’t still be trying to attack me...or the mini crossbow pistol. 50lbs pull, 6 inch dart at about 160fps, well placed I’d bet it would be deadly, and it’s very accurate. My 1st 4 shots with it were all within 2 inches of the bullseye.

This little guy

It looks Bulgarian. I had the milled .556 variant, and it’s accuracy was comparable to a service grade AR. I screwed the pooch and traded it in on the Bulgarian SLR-106, because I wanted all of the “no-ban” features like the folding stock, bayonet lug, and muzzle brake. Mainly, I needed the optics rail because my aging eyes could not shoot iron sights well anymore.

Notice the gun in the pic is an AK-47 caliber, but it has the AK 74 gas block and brake.

I have a Rock Island VR-80 (AR-12). Massive fun. Going out to the woods with some buddies in a week or two to blow stuff up.

AK-100 series uses the -74 style gas block. AK-103 is chambered in 7.62x39. The one pictured has a NATO length stock. It may well be the Palmetto State Armory AK-103.

I agree it does look Bulgarian, but it’s getting harder to tell with kits. Lots of newer models have a 90 degree gas block and a 74 brake

Was gonna buy a SLR107FR that’s identical to the one pictured as far as I can tell without laying my hands on it

I only buy 7.62x39 AKs due to magazine costs. 5.49x39 mags are $30 on average, and I run mags hard as F. Rake them out, drop them, etc

A little, not too much. We’re gonna be shooting and getting shot at whoever wins, but we’re gonna kick their ass.

I’m more worried about parts availability. Kits are few and far between just now. I make and bend my own receiver flats, but all the rest of the parts and full kits are hit or miss

Custom AKs. Do you have a web site up? I’d be interested to see if my friend could improve on his vintage 2007 WASR-10.

Eventually it’ll come down to US parts. That’s what’s encouraging about the decent US trunnions and bolts.

RE “Assault” Rifle:

Nah... that one, right there.... that’s a “Personal Defense Rifle”.

You CAN’T use a Personal Defense Rifle for “assault”, after all...

:^)
