When the iron range took a hit in the ‘80’s I was a maintenance manager at a large open pit mine in Wyoming. We hired some of those displaced workers and was hesitant to hire any of them as they belonged to the steelworkers union. We didn’t have any problems with them and they wanted nothing to do with the union. They actually helped us with a union drive in the late 80’s.
