Actually, that is a neat idea to prevent them from editing to make him look bad.

That's exactly what this is all about.
Rush Limbaugh occasionally tells a story about an interview that one U.S. news show (maybe "60 Minutes") was going to do with Anwar Sadat back in the 1970s. They said the interview would be shown in a 20-minute segment on the show, and they would spend about two hours interviewing him.
He told them that he wouldn't do the interview unless they aired the whole thing. He basically said: "If you are going to show a 20-minute interview of me on U.S. television, then I'll give you 20 minutes of my time and you won't edit any of it."
From what I understand, they agreed to his terms.
