“Virtue-signaling, earring-wearing dyed-hair a-hole. IIRC, the other 3 members of CCR, including his brother Tom, kinda hated the guy.”
Tom Fogerty quit the band a year before the other two founding members walked out on John. The brothers barely spoke until just before Tom died in 1990. John still blames Tom for the problems that caused them to stop speaking.
When CCR was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame John refused to perform with Stu and Doug, instead playing CCR songs with Bruce Springsteen and other stars.
That was particularly hard on Tom’s widow who had brought his ashes to the event expecting some recognition for him. Instead it was turned into the John Fogerty show.
The other two founding members, Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, to this day state they will never again work with John.
Over the years John has sued anyone and everyone who has used CCR songs in ads, always losing.
A class A asshole through and through.
The rest of CCR, including brother Tom, contributed almost nothing to CCR songs. What have they done since the band busted up? Nothing you ever heard of....
Interesting about the R&R HOF. What a jerk. I get it that he was the leader and primary creative force of the group, but it was still a *group.* If the group was being enshrined in the HOF, it takes a special sort of a—hole to exclude the actual members of the group from the event in favor of Springsteen et al.
Brian Wilson’s position in the peak-era Beach Boys was comparable to Fogerty’s in CCR, but Brian didn’t/doesn’t treat the rest of the group like garbage. In fact, one could argue that he’s nicer to some of them than they deserve.
John is a liberal a-hole. That said, he wrote and sang all the songs and made CCR one of the most successful acts of the era. Without him they would have been just another garage band, yet the others wanted an equal cut and bristled at John's claim to leadership of the band. When John finally told them they each needed to write and sing their own songs, they (absent Tom) wound up producing the awful Mardi Gras album marking the end of the band. I'm actually sympathetic to John's point of view with respect to the band.
John and family living the dream.
