The point of the experiment is to validate an hypothesis of M- theory which is a more comprehensive mathematical expression of string theory. The idea is if a black hole can be formed at energies less than what classical General Relativity calls the Schwarzchild limit it would indicate that gravitational negative energy was leaking between M-theory “branes” which are higher dimensional strings. The black holes only exist for a femtosecond (1x 10 (-15) seconds) so they aren’t going to hurt anybody at our scale.
Also, the Many Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics is not a philosophy it is simply a rejection of the unsupported wave collapse or Copenhagen story that was popularized by Max Born. It is simpler and doesn’t change the macro level experience of observers so it makes sense from the standpoint of Occam’s Razor.
I guess now we know.
I’ve also wondered why we have not found intelligent life in the universe.
