'Unmasking' probe concludes without 'finding any substantive wrongdoing': report
The Hill ^ | 10 13 2020 | Olivia Beavers

The federal prosecutor Attorney General Bill Barr tapped to investigate whether Obama administration officials improperly requested the unmasking of individuals during the 2016 election has concluded his probe without “finding any substantive wrongdoing,” The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Barr appointed U. S. Attorney Jeremy Bash to review whether there was wrongdoing by the Obama administration in requesting the identities of individuals — in particular Trump allies — whose names are redacted in intelligence reports during the heated election.

The practice, known as unmasking, is common and done to help government officials make sense of the intelligence documents they are reviewing, but the president and his allies have alleged that Obama-era officials acted improperly in making a series of unmasking requests that ultimately led to former Trump campaign aide Michael Flynn’s name to be unmasked.

According to the Post, Bash and his team reviewed unmasking practices as well as whether officials at the time improperly leaked information to reporters. Bash reportedly turned over his findings to Barr, whose office chose not to publicly release the findings. The findings did not rise to the allegations Trump and his allies have made about wrongdoing, according to the report.

Of course they did. They were not looking for any wrong doing.

Trump can start spying on Biden to see what his campaign is doing. Precedent!

The way Just Us works is you narrow the scope of the investigation so that you are looking for a needle in a haystack.

Then you spend thousands of hours and lots of staff time hunting for the needle.

Then you don’t find it.

This stuff is _so_ predictable.

Exactly. They also “silo” the information and do not share it among investigative bodies. Barr won’t take Nunes’ info for starters and that causes a huge delay. It’s all intentional and a run out the clock play.

Had there been a will to genuinely investigate this it could all have been sorted in 2017. But they all hate Trump and want him gone so we get this run out the clock beltway theater.

J*sus. The founding fathers got it right when they had stricter requirements to have the right to vote.

We have a White House to protect, a Senate to keep and a House to win and a lot of work to do between now and Nov 3.

Once we clear that hurdle, whatever comes out (if anything), at least we’ll have the control to successfully see justice being served.

Graham winning is a win for “us”? Really? Did you feel that way when Graham was threatening POTUS not to fire Sessions in 2017 and also to author a Mueller Coup Protection act?

Once POTUS wins we will get more of the same. The GOP has pushed this all into campaign season where it can plausibly be punted to after the election. The swamp will do the same after election too.

President Trump is one man and these past 4 years have shown it takes an entire political party work together to drain the swamp. The GOP has proven they have no interest in that.

Deep State is desperate.

They don’t look desperate to me. Guilty as sin, free as birds. Business as usual in the beltway sewer.

Patriot Act

Many people rightly bitched about that monstrosity being enacted and were right.

Is unmasking illegal? Or is it within the discretionary authority these people have in these jobs?

That’s been the key for a lot of these offenses. They are firing offenses, abuse of discretion, but not part of the criminal codes.

Yeah, I kind of tune out of some of these things these day.

As you say Rudy is not the same now. It matters. He may
not be quite as sharp as he was, and I don’t mean that as
a dig. We all get there over the years.

I don’t know why we don’t get action. Then again, why
did Roberts rule it a tax.

Are they all compromised? Was Sessions problematic in
that sense?

It’ll drive you batty if you let it.

........arguably the political scene in the US is terrifyingly chaotic and any effort by a Republican AG to put top Democratic politicians in prison could cost Trump some democratic votes. Remember some “experts” estimate that as many as 20% of Dems are “walkaways” in this election.

The main objective is, I think, to get Trump over the goal line in another 3 weeks from today! Anything else is peripheral to that happening. November 4, I hope Barr sees Trump is re-elected and then personally drives the paddy wagon over to Hillary’s and then Obama’s.

You know, twice I started to lose it over the polls. And then I grounded myself and remembered all the nonsense from 2016. And either way worrying doesn’t add a day to anyone’s life.

I am not going to lose my mind over the likelihood that Obama and the clintons and others will never see a day in prison.

I just want Trump to win.
