‘Afraid to leave my home’: Residents describe city on the brink at Minneapolis committee meeting.

“We have never seen anything like this.”

“I’m scared to even drive after dark.”

“I don’t feel safe walking around my neighborhood.”

“Everybody feels the same way. We all want to move.”

That’s just some of the feedback the Minneapolis City Council received during an Oct. 8 meeting of the Public Health and Safety Committee.

More than 60 residents signed up to speak their minds at the two-hour virtual meeting, grilling council members on their “irresponsible rhetoric” and failure to adequately staff the Minneapolis Police Department.

“We should all know as adults that words such as ‘defund,’ ‘dismantle,’ and ‘abolish’ have severe consequences. We are a city in crisis and need action now,” said one resident who lives in the Loring Park neighborhood.

“We are putting citizens and officers at risk working with a demoralized and burned out patrol staff that is down to 450 for a city of 437,000,” she added.

Another resident wondered if council members were still receiving private security while “the constituency are generally afraid.”

A doorbell camera captured five males beating and robbing a man in Minneapolis in late August.

“I will just say due to the nature of public hearings and public comment periods like this that we as a council, we’re receiving the comments so it’s not necessarily a back-and-forth but I do recommend you contact your council member to be able to engage more thoroughly in that dialogue,” replied Council Member Phillipe Cunningham, chair of the committee.

Several speakers wanted answers on whether or not the Minneapolis Police Department is currently staffed in accordance with the City Charter, which requires roughly three officers per every 5,000 residents.

A lawsuit filed in August claimed that at least 80 officers had retired or quit while another 111 were on some type of medical leave

“Everybody feels the same way. We all want to move.”

These cities can wring money from the dwindling pool of homeowners tied to mortgages and/or family circumstances, but no working Americans will be buying the homes there. Minneapolis already imported Somalis to keep the lights on; they’ll just bring in other Third Worlders to fill the void again.

But yet Trump won’t carry Minneapolis. I truly feel sorry for the people there that give a crap.

If you live in a location where a politician uses the word “dialogue”, sell and get out of there now!

That is a leftist creep “tell”.

Good!!!

Wallow in the liberal paradise you’ve created Minnesotans. My only misgiving is that some of the liberal vermin will escape to well run Republican cities and eagerly continue voting Democrat, trashing their new home city.

There seems to be plenty of that happening in Seattle too. The population is not shrinking. It’s growing. It’s also drastically changing demographically.

I’d say you know little about the state. I can see Minneapolistan from my front porch. It is a great state once you get outside occupied territory.

I have a friend who lives within the Saint Floyd CHOP zone. Great conservative guy. but he can’t leave because the area is fenced off and he owes too much on his house.

Perhaps you could tell us about the large cities in your state that are run by great conservatives. I’ll wait.

We feel the same way about getting out of Seattle 9 years ago. One of my friends just sold his place and moved to Idaho. His kids moved there a year ago. My oldest and her husband moved out two years ago, my middle daughter moved to Arizona a year ago and my youngest and her husband (and my grandaughter) are moving out in January. Her husband owns a business that employs just under 40 IT developers. They now all work from home - and though he’s not laying off, going forward he will not be hiring any Seattle talent. It’s too expensive and offers no improvement in quality. He’ll be seeking new hires from tier 2 and 3 markets.

Yes but leaving your home at night or feeling safe anywhere comes from a place of privilege.....and those who complain about it In Minneapolis need to check their privilege.

Am I doing this right?

So, you admit it. You are actually irrelevant, unable to control your own life, your own destiny.

What are you gonna do about it?

There is only one solution.
Minneapolis citizens must make their government scared.
Very scared.
Eyes wide open scared.
Make it happen.
Liberals must be destroyed.

I’ll bet he’d feel differently if his face was under that sand.
