aiwan has long looked to the United States for protection from the massive forces of the Chinese mainland 100 miles to the west. Now Taipei is calling for robust defense ties with Washington amid growing concerns of potential conflict as Beijing's warplanes conduct regular fly-by's, threatening reunification by force.

Aircraft of the People's Liberation Army continued to enter Taiwan's declared air defense identification throughout the weekend, even as the self-ruling island celebrated "National Day"—an occasion commemorating the end of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China, which Taiwan officially calls itself.

But as the rival People's Republic of China made its presence known, Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen delivered a military message as well.

"As commander-in-chief," Tsai said, "I always have the future of our military and our military of the future in my heart."

China leadership is evil and will probably see the time period when US is in election as a good time to wreak havoc.

Taiwan wants Trump then. If Biden is elected, bye bye Taiwan. Heck, might happen even if Trump is re-elected. Might not be anything we can do about it.

3 weeks-too short a time for all the logistics to attack. Unless the vote count drags on. But then POTUS is in charge. Could Taiwan hold off an attack for awhile? Good question. Chicoms are not 10’ tall.

Free people need to stick together, or tyrants will pick us off one by one. Freedom still isn't free, and the Republic of China and it's people are willing to fight for freedom, but they cannot do it alone.

Just like the gallant Austrians. Why, I can hear the von Trapps singing "Edelweiss" right now...Oh wait! That was a movie!

If Biden somehow pulls off his mail fraud, China will have four years, or at least until his handlers tire of him.

But then POTUS is in charge.

At least, with certainty, until January 20, 2021.

(But then, I thought there was no way in hell BJ or Obama would win second terms, there were just too many unbelievable and damning matters of record.)

They still need to kick in some money to pay for their own defense.

These countries are having financial success because they don’t need to support a military- They rely on the USA.

So, how about kicking in a little something?

How many U.S. presidents have fully subscribed to the quite important principle you pose with regard to the Taiwan issue? It has been on the table and obvious for decades; that a stronger China would determine to reclaim Taiwan.

China demonstrates an intent and purpose with its continuing incursions. It should be obvious to all Trump will have to not only pick his (our) battles and specific means very carefully but also pick the time of confrontation.

Many Americans doubt Trump will leave a second term with China business yet unfinished.

After I retired from Raytheon, I worked as a contractor for the USAF, and interfaced with the Taiwan AF. They devote a lot of their GDP to defense, and pay top dollar for U.S. weapons, and would buy more if we would sell it to them. They pay through the nose for U.S. hardware. There is a limit to what they can do by themselves. The U.S. is reluctant to sell them what could be turned over to the Mainland.

Taiwan has remained independent for seventy years because it is backed by the U.S. Maybe we could get Japan and Australia and New Zealand more involved.

2 places that would be thrown under the bus by buffoon Biden admin are Britian and Taiwan. Britain sacrificed on the multi lateral alter (pressured to rejoin EU) and Taiwan. You can prob throw Israel in too, as string puller Jarrett gets the Obumble policy of sucking up to Iran back in vogue

To paraphrase LBJ - We should not send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Taiwanese boys ought to be doing for themselves.

Taiwan should be quite capable of making China suffer greatly if it tries to swallow Taiwan. The question is - do Taiwan’s own people love their democracy and de facto independence enough to do what it takes?

Yes the Taiwanese would die to save their country. I spend quite a bit of time over there as wife is from there. I have spoke with several military people and they are ready and willing. The first thing they would do is take out the Three Gorges dam which china screamed about when they were told that. That alone would put a major hurt on china.

Reading between the lines I think china wants Taiwans’ money more than anything. If you follow history china actually belongs to Taiwan.
