Woodville, Texas is the county seat of Tyler County Texas. A beautiful little county will rolling hills and lots of pine trees.
That director is not a US immigrant. They’re a native-born French citizen, born in Paris. They don’t live in the US and their film is legal in France (unfortunately). Netflix bought the film in from them.
Been touting her(him?)self as a "film director and screen writer."
Figures ...... the only way she (he) could get into the hallowed halls of Hollywood is by appealing to the pedophiles gathered in Tinseltown.
I kicked Netflix to the curb 2 weeks ago due to this. No more money from me.

The bios I’ve seen say that Doucouré was born in Paris to Senegalese immigrant parents.
Her film features a traditional Senegalese Muslim girl caught and torn between
two contrasting fortunes, traditional Senegalese values and internet culture.
It highlights the hyper-sexualization of preadolescent girls, she says, and is feminist-oriented .
The script won the Sundance's Global Filmmaking Award in 2017.

While she may be typical media culture in changing her story as needed, she did say in one interview I saw that the parts about integrating into metropolitan France as a ‘child of color’ were from her experiences growing up, the parts about immigrant children being exploited were based on interviews she conducted while writing the screenplay.
FYI, I do speak and read French - while the film is in fact disgusting, there’s been a lot of bad translations of French-language interviews with this director. At least in French, she’s been pretty clear that the child exploitation parts are not based on her own experiences and that she was never a refugee.
Hope so. I only saw a couple of trailers, but it was gross and disgusting and I can’t imagine why any parents would have let their daughter participate.
I am trying to grasp why you would expend energy defending this person.....refugee or not.
If you actually feel the need to defend her, you do not belong on this site.
