Leaving it up the moderators is the problem. Let them fight or don’t. Moderators will always pick the side of the candidate they support, and that’s not going to be Trump. If the candidates can’t control themselves, it’s not difficult to set a timer on the microphone. The candidate activates the mic when he begins and it cuts off after the allotted time.
I suggest that they use a chess clock.
For each fifteen minute segment each debater gets 450 seconds.
As each debater finishes he or she hits the switch which turns off their clock and turns on their opponent’s clock.
When a debater runs out of time his or her microphone is cut off for the remainder of the segment.
When both debaters have run out of time, the segment is over.
This will force each debater to come up with brief answers.

This is preposterous!
When the Democrat tells nonstop lies, and the moderator does nothing to stop it, the Republican NEEDS to be able to interrupt as often as necessary.
And what about debate “zingers” like “Because you’d be in jail.”? That was an interruption (as zingers usually are).
The Presidential Debate Committee board members are ALL lefties.
The fact that they’re changing the rules, during the debate cycle, is outrageous.
POTUS should call them out and tell them what HIS new rules/agreement will be.
THEY changed their rules, he did not. They cancelled the original agreement.
