I’m embarrassed to admit i haven’t read about either one yet.

It would be great though if we bluffed who the candidate was, then did a switcharoo at last minute like this.

The court needs somebody with a fervent and personal hatred of socialism. That would be Lagoa.

But it seems that this is not her moment.

Your entire argument is based on your opinion that she is “anti-communist” based on her parents fleeing Cuba? Who says any of the other potential nominees are any less “anti-communist” than Lagoa? I see no evidence to back up this argument.

Lagoa’s resume is incredibly thin on important constitutional issues and she has only been a Federal Judge for a year. I say let her build her resume in the 11th Circuit. Right now, we really don’t know her. Several other candidates have much more impressive bodies of work that we can examine. Actual written rulings and opinions on cases involving important constitutional issues.

Lagoa might be easier to confirm, but if Trump can put a more proven judge on the court, he should.

Are you even still around? You asked people and should answer them. And the answer is no.

And donate $10 to freerepublic for a kind of silly vanity

This debate is moot, because, IMHO, both women will become SCJ’s, soon enough. I see the need for yet another new SCJ, just around the corner.

Why are both names being raised? I thought Trump had decided to nominate Judge Amy. Is there still doubt?

I say if the media is wrong, I would love to see Britt Grant. She’s pretty impressive. And it would be great if the lovely women of the left all came to protest in their Handmaid outfits and Trump announces someone completely different.

Amy Barrett will become Chief Justice Roberts’ best friend on the Court. They are both the darlings of the Washington Republican Establishment and she will vote that way. I have no problem with her religious views, in fact I welcome that on the Court. However, her view on the deference to government is troubliing, as demonstrated in her apparent support for Jacobsen v. Massachusetts. She can be expected to support lockdown measures, requiring only the magic word, emergency to deprive citizens of their rights.

We will rue this choice.

Amy is hated by all the “cool” people. That is reason enough for me to choose her.

Wouldn’t it be a great stroke if he “punked” the media corpse by throwing Barrett’s name out continually and then announcing Lagoa at 5:00? I would laugh my tail off, and it would be a good object lesson to teach the media corpse who is in control...I don’t think it will happen, but it would be funny. Like all other matters, God will be picking this judge. ^^^^^

First: The most qualified person - woman or man - is Amy Coney Barrett.

Second: She is a known to the base and very well thought of. This begs the question, Why have to waste time introducing someone new with such a small window of opportunity?

Third: She can take the attacks which is something we don’t know about any other woman being considered.

Fourth: Trump already has way more Latino support than he won with last time. There is no political urgency in picking a Latino woman.

Fifth: As a strongly adherent Catholic Barrett will bring out Catholic voters an important bloc.

Sixth: Her pro-life position will thrill those concerned with ending Roe v Wade and they will vote accordingly.

Seven: Because Barrett has two adopted children from Haiti, the Democrats will question her about them with their real aim of opening questions about John Robert’s illegal adoptions of two children from Ireland. That sets the stage for an impeachment attempt by spiteful Democrats who will do anything to bring on a new hearing to fill his empty seat. This won’t work and will actually backfire, but it will be the issue the Democrats will use to try to re-gain the Senate in 2022. If it is successful or Roberts resigns rather than have his family publicly destroyed, Trump gets to pick a clean new Justice and we end up with six real conservatives.

Lay off. If you don't like the thread don't read it. I find it interesting....and my tenure here rivals Methuselah.

He should have picked Lagoa—yeah, my late decision here, and per Robert Barnes, he should have gone with Lagoa.

The Federalist Society establishment/Deep State in DC (that brought Trump Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Wray, etc.) has propped up Barrett, who has come down hard in support of president lockdowns, the forced vaccination precedent, will only rule consistent with what the Vatican says, etc.

Another disaster. Unfortunately.

Lagoa could be the female David Souter. Not enough of a track record to read the tea leaves on her. Wait and see on her.
