I’d also point out that Murkowski, in this case, does not appear to have backtracked - but rather answered a different questions which the media ran with.
Would she prefer the nomination come to a vote before the election: No
If a nominee comes up for a confirmation vote will she vote for them: Yes.

She disagrees with the Process. If she felt that strongly about something that is going forward no matter what she thinks about it, she can simply Vote Present or choose to not Vote at all.
The Nominee has nothing to do with her position.

Right, it’s possible Collins could come over. Maine is a tough place for Republican to hang on to their seat. But Barrett seems a Teflon-coated nominee, I give it 50-50 Collins will vote to confirm.
And Manchin’s constituents are not going to be accepting of the anti-religious bigotry of the Left. If the Dems keep playing that card, Manchin will vote “aye.”
Manchin will only vote yes if she already has the votes to win. I still think he’ll vote no.
