The forces propelling the current unrest have little in common with the 1860s. Now, the pre-WWII Spanish Civil War, that might be something worth studying. Most people in the U.S. know little enough of our own national history, so that bloody struggle in Spain is mostly a big question mark. Add in some later Maoist twists and that's the sort of "civil war" that we could see. The new "Red Guard" is betting that we won't see the need to organize and fight back until it's too late.

I think many Americans are just too spoiled and lazy to produce what you suggest.
It appears that a lot of the people who are out there burning things down, are being paid, in some way, by .... someone.
If there were an actual war, all of those people would be hiding.
(The solution to ‘public shaming’ is simply to refuse to be shamed. One might lose one’s job, if it comes to that extreme; but at least they wouldn’t lose their Soul.)
