As others have said, the optics of mentioning RBG’s passing with the crowd cheering is bad optics, so it’s better he doesn’t mention it to the crowd.
I’m sure the first thing he will do after the speech is send his message of condolence.
I think the campaign knew before this rally started. I have NEVER seen the people seated behind the President NOT take out their phones to film. The people in front of the President have their phones and are taking pictures, but behind him I haven’t seen one phone come out. They will probably get to take pictures as soon as Trump ends rally.
