“...reckless burning...” That’s a new one to me.

I believe it means innocently leaving a campground with a little ember in the fire there, when Smoky the Bear told you to "make sure it's out, dead out."

Or adolescents setting up a campfire unsafely in a dry area.

This perp needs a ten year sentence fighting forest fires on a prison crew. Loan him out to neighboring states as well. Have him work six and a half days a week, with Sunday mornings off for church if he wishes.

If there are no fires at the time, he can plant saplings and shovel earthen firebreaks.

If it turns out one of his fires led to someone's death, make his sentence thirty years.

Arson is a psycho-sexual criminal offense

“reckless burning” — Sounds like a weak charge you would get if you made your ring of rocks around your campfire too small.

Not to worry, they REALLY amped up the charge after he did it six more times. This time he got SIX charges of “reckless burning.”

What happened to plain old “arson”? Or maybe “conspiracy to burn all of Oregon down”?

Yep. The authorities say nine of ten wildfires are man-caused. You KNOW that not many of them are unattended campfires, trailer safety chains smacking rocks, or slash burns that got out of control.

In my neck of the woods it’s not a good idea to have outside social fires unless there is a fair amount of snow on the ground.

Just a suggestion that these people should be locked up immediately because arson is a mental issue and too risky to release.
