Left-wing protesters want Detroit Police Chief James Craig to join the ranks of law-enforcement leaders leaving the job in droves, but the no-nonsense chief says he’s not going anywhere.
“I am not going to allow criminals to attack our police officers, attack property, and I absolutely am not going to allow them to take over our city streets,” Chief Craig said Saturday on Fox Business. “We speak a very different language. They know it. And they want me to leave. The best way to respond to that is: I’m staying.”
About 40 progressive groups, including Detroit Will Breathe and the Metro Detroit Democratic Socialists of America, signed a letter earlier this month calling for the resignation of Chief Craig amid criticism of his officers for using tear gas, rubber bullets, batons and other crowd-control methods.
At least 20 U.S. police chiefs, including high-profile Black police chiefs in Seattle, Dallas and Rochester, New York, have stepped down since mass unrest broke out after the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.
Chief Craig, who is Black, said that the race of the department head doesn’t matter to protesters, who “want what they want, and if you’re opposing their agenda… then you’ve got to go.”
He credited his department’s response with keeping rioting to a minimum in Detroit.
“Here’s the fact: We’re now in excess of 100 days of managing protests. Of that, it’s been six instances where we’ve had to use force, and it’s always been in response to violence perpetrated by these criminals,” said Chief Craig.

It is great to see Detroit finally have a people stand up for the city. DET had been to my knowledge peaceful with only a few issues unlike the daily riots in PDX.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig needs to STAY and he needs to call other ethical decent police chiefs and ask them to stay too.
Antifa want police out - that’s a good reason NOT to leave.
Originally, there were multiple groups of armed or semi-armed (weapons other than guns) gangs brawling in the streets, incl the Nazi's Brownshirts, and very large Socialist & Communist gangs. Neither side totally dominated the other. Police broke up violent brawls and were mostly even-handed in locking up both sides.
At least at first.
Germany was divided into various states, with Prussia being by far the biggest in area, population, and other measures. Bavaria was a distant 2nd, and all the rest were also-rans. In fact, I think Prussia was like around 2/3 of Gernany.
At the time, Hermann Goering, who had recently joined the Nazi Party, commanded far more name recognition and respect than Hitler did. The latter was an upstart Austrian, while Goering was a national WWI hero - a famous flying Ace who later married into a wealthy family. He had all the political connections that Hitler didn't.
Somehow, the job of Minister of (Interior?) for Prussia opened up, and Goering got himself appointed to it. The single most important aspect of this job was that all police departments throughout Prussia, and therefore 2/3 if Germany, reported directly to his office. Soon after, all brawls between Brownshirts & Socialists or Communist gangs ended up with the latter groups being jailed permanently, while the former walked free.
So Hitler's thugs "owned the streets" of every city & town in most of Germany, and were thereby able to silence dissent.

Of course, the Freikorps had semi-official backing. If we ever get to that point, it’s gonna be like the Spanish Civil War all over again. I expect at the end of it, most of either the GOP’s or the Democrats’ luminaries will lie in mass graves or have gone into exile.

im in Detroit...this Chief is amazing....he was hired right after the Kwame Kilpatrick fiasco ...first thing did was clean the police department up. He fired every assistant chief and hired all new from outside the department...he put the narcotics unit under his direct leadership. It was so corrupt and all new narc/cops can not serve more than 3 years in the unit. He URGED all qualified citizens to get a conceal carry license and arm themselves..he actually does commercials for it. As for the rioters here..there hasnt been 1 fire or 1 store looted..NOT ONE!!....the first night, they attacked a couple police cars, and the Chief unleashed these guys and it was over in half hour...biggest cops i ever saw...dont matter if they are male/female...white or black rioters..you get out of line, to jail they go.
So things would have worked out better fif the Commies won this battle and populace entrusted they would tolerate dissent? I’m sure that’s not what you meant.
It’s not a popular opinion, but the Reds were far worse than Nazis. Obviously most German Jews were on the side where things couldn’t turn out well for them given most were Communists. There was affiliation with a very violent group of 1920s antifa types despite how things are portrayed in Hollywood films.Things never go that far for nothing and it was awful...somebody was going to lose big and that happened. It will undoubtedly occur again.
Considering the Russian intellectuals like Lenin etc. were coming to Germany (or exiled) as a home base, it seems inescapable mass violence would eventually occur. They simply had enough of these bastards over a long period of time and probably felt like Americans did towards Al Quaeda. Stalins regime and Mao’s would have made the Nazis feel like the ‘JV’ squad per a recent Red sympathizer’s parlance.
Detroit has been relatively riot free. The Biden campaign knows rhat it would be over in Michigan if they happen. So far the military wing is mostly following those orders.
