Venezuelas capacity to produce some much-needed gasoline and diesel of its own hinges on a single oil play. To tap it, the Nicolas Maduro regime is willing to cannibalize the countrys crumbling energy infrastructure to pay contractors with scrap metal.
Unlike the tar-like crude from Venezuelas Orinoco region, the light oil from Monagas state is the only kind thats easy to process into fuel at the countrys aging refineries. Its also the only area where production doesnt require the help of sanction-wary partners.
So, with the U.S. considering further steps to curb the countrys fuel imports, cash-strapped state producer Petroleos de Venezuela SA is offering to pay for major repairs at pumping stations and compression plants in Monagas with scrap metal and parts from idled oil facilities, people familiar with the situation said, asking not to be named because the information isnt public.

Why not just shoot the blastards?
another great socialist triumph “for the people” just ask Biden/the Ineligible Harris/Pelousy/HilLIARy/Bernie the Red, they’ll do the same for America!
Ping.
Ain’t Socialism Grand?
“...Aint Socialism Grand?...”
Yeah. It’s just absolutely peachy..../s
The same thing will soon be coming to the USA IF communists win the WH and flip the senate.
A good friend of mine has been selling various equipment into oil and gas and refineries for years.
He travelled to Venezuela from the late 1990s to 2010. He saw public safety steadily get worse to the point where they needed guards to travel in any major city. Then in 2011 after his last visit, they decided to cut all ties with Venezuela. He said that irregardless of payments, after years of neglect and under-investment, their refineries were a disaster and a huge accident waiting to happen. Sure enough, about one year later there was a huge explosion at the Amuay refinery there which killed 50 workers.
I remember back in the late 1950s and early 1960s when revolutionaries were constantly blowing up the pipelines. Now they are in control and continue to destroy their infrastructure.
Indeed.
Ought to keep oil prices up until at least 12 months after a regime change.
Could there be any better illustration of how communism works? Check out zimbabwe, cuba, the Berlin wall, no. korea
Atlas ping. And so they tore up the Rio Norte Line to use the rail for other purposes.
Thank You for the ping!
AS is a warning to any sane person.

What could possibly go wrong with eating your seed corn?
This sure is like something out of an Ayn Rand novel. A formerly successful country looted by the communists and what is left of its decayed infrastructure is sold as scrap.
Golden Goose meets scrap metal.
A good college friend of mine is an electrical engineer that works on the power supply on offshore oil rigs. He was stationed in Venezuela several years in the early 2000’s and had horror stories of completely inept crew and management on those rigs. Most all the technically experienced foreign works but a rare few had been kicked out and couldn’t mentor the replacements. It was “learn as you go”, which wasn’t working out very well at all. After that tour was done he has refused to go back. He wasn’t respected, he wasn’t listened to, and the safety issues were overwhelming.
Bernie and Antifa need to go down there and assist those people. Venezuela is custom made for socialism and ready to be taken.
Unlike here.
