Top Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are calling for a hearing into violence and civil unrest seen in Democrat-run cities during recent demonstrations against police brutality across the country.
In a letter sent to Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday, the GOP lawmakers accused Democrats of failing to prevent violence or condemn far-left activist groups like antifa, and argued that a stronger stance needs to be taken to keep cities safe and prevent the destruction of property.
Dear Chairman Nadler: Violent left-wing extremists are destroying Democrat-run American cities. As parts of these cities literally burn, prominent Democrat leaders look the other way on lawlessness and disorder. Even you, the chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee with a unique platform to denounce left-wing violence, have trivialized it as imaginary and a myth, the Republicans wrote.
The Democrats acceptance and tacit encouragement of violence has real consequences. It is beyond time that you forcefully denounce left-wing violent extremism and convene a Committee hearing to examine the civic unrest plaguing Democrat-run cities, they added.
The letter was led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the top GOP lawmaker on the panel, and signed by Reps. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), who are all Judiciary subcommittee ranking members. They argued left-wing agitators have been exploiting peaceful protests against systematic racism, citing sometimes violent protests in cities including Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Kenosha, Wis.; Washington, D.C. and New York City.

Nadler reads the memo.
Then tosses into the green waste basket.
Nothing will happen until the GOP takes back the House.
Did you see who the committee chairman is?
It’s Nadler.
This will go nowhere. It’s just theater
We must also determine whether we use the Law Standard or the Liberal Double Standard during the hearings.
Wrong chamber, but they probably don’t have the guts to do it in the Senate with our current lineup.
If this is the best the GOP has to offer, they stand little chance of re-taking the House, even in a Trump victory.
It’s a good move. They want ‘Nads to publicly reject this reasonable request to stop the destruction of Democrat/Left-controlled cities.
The Republicans should be holding press conferences in every city that had riots demanding the resignation of the Democratic mayors.
If mayors refuse to defend life and property in their cities they have failed their oath of offices and need to resign in shame.
Time to play offense, not defense!
How long have we been dodging shovel loads of bull excrement? Here is another one.
What is the point of the hearing exactly?
Who cares! The main thing is that blacks and hispanics are seeing lib whites come into their neiborhoods and turning them into food deserts. It’s increasing the number of blacks and hispanics who will privately be voting for Trump and that is why Fingers is now coming out against the violence by his own voters. Only problem? Too little too late!
Republicans are the minority party in the House. What do you think?
Just wonderful. Another hearing. That’ll show’em!
I’ll bet they’re shaking in their little fag boots.
These hearings accomplish little if anything. Consider the hearing with Barr. I’m sure all FReepers remember the headlines for weeks after that hearing, right?
We gotta take the House away from the do nothing Democrats.
GO VOTE!
The Republicans should be holding press conferences in every city that had riots demanding the resignation of the Democratic mayors.
What happens if they say no? Politicians as a rule are dead to all sense of shame.
Classic Alinsky tactics—you don’t care if they resign—you just want to personalize the rioting and make the mayors’ _own_ it.
Persistence wins.
Surrender and silence loses.
Life is easy when you know the rules.
Well, to be fair, what more CAN they do? What would be your ideal course of action?
Conservatives have been calling for Nancy Pelosi to resign for a long time. Last time I checked she’s still Speaker of the House.
There is only one way to win—and that is to keep on fighting.
If one tactic does not work, try another.
If that does not work, try another tactic.
Rinse and repeat.
Never give up.
Never.
