I'm a lifelong Orioles fan and attend many a game at the old Memorial Stadium in the late sixties and through the seventies, back when bleacher seats were all of $1.10.... While the '69 Series loss to the Mets really hurt, with the benefit of time and hindsight there was no shame in losing to that team and that pitching staff.
Think about it: Other than the young-gun Seaver, manager Gil Hodges, and Coach Yogi Berra, most of the 1969 Mets were no-names, and has-beens. The Orioles, in contrast, was a team of allstars — Blair, Powell, Johnson, Robinson, Beleanger, Palmer, McNally, and the great Frank Robinson, among others. The ‘69 series was Davy vs. Goliath and Davy won. I am 61 and I still recall the series like yesterday.
Thanks very much, NautiNurse. My narrative at # 90 above was awe-inspiring even to me, as I am so much a baseball fan...and I love its history.

Wonderful!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for sharing this great story! I lived in NY/NJ area during Tom Terrific’s time! After my beloved Dodgers left, I became a Mets’ fan! Yes, Tom Seaver’s record will live forever! He was a great gentleman on & off the field! May he RIP!
Thank you for this post. Enjoyed reading it.
Leni @ #90,, you are the best story teller! After so many years of reading you on FR, it is always a treat when I spy your distinctive writing style. Since the day we met at The March for Justice in D.C., I’ve been a fan. You have un-peeled (you’re a sweet-onion) your life’s’ stories over many writings, and they deserve a compilation. All the years of planning Freeper parties, scads of timely clever ditties, down-right excellent prose, ALL have been a gift to the many of us who follow your posts. My grateful thanks for some lessons in civility that you have taught me and others, by example.
We are both old-timers on this forum, and each of us has made so many freeper friends over the years....and I'm so proud to say you are one of my oldest and dearest friends of all.

An excellent summation of the value of long-time Freeper MinuteGal who has humored, charmed, shared her wit and poems, and her incisive political commentary with us all, lo these many years. You’ve got it exactly right seenenuf. Well said.
