I saw an interview once where a white woman was interviewing Morgan Freeman. The reporter asked, "You grew up in Mississippi with all of the racism and segregation. What was it like when you had enough success to leave Mississippi?" Freeman responded, "Well, what I found out was that it wasn't much different in other places".
The reporter was stunned to learn the truth.
The North version of racism is much more insidious and dangerous.
In the South, in places where it is tolerated, it’s more open and plain for all to see.
It’s like when I was a kid of about six or seven, living in Mississippi, I rushed into the house one day and told my grandfather there was a snake in the woodpile.
He told me to leave it alone, it lives in that woodpile.
But it will bite I said.
You know it’s there, he said, so you can avoid it.
It won’t bother you if you don’t bother it.
In the North you don’t know about the snske in the woodpile.............
bkmk
Even in the ‘north’? There is MORE racism in ‘the North’ than there ever was in ‘The South’. You will see far more mixed race couples in the South than in the North. Why? Because they were ALWAYS HERE, even in the OLD SOUTH. They faced ostracization from both sides, but they still existed, and flourished in some areas, even during the height of the KKK’s power...............
Man, dont challenge the southern stereotypes. Thatll get you in big trouble around here.
I can hold my own against anyone on Southern traditions vs myth...........
When I was in the Air Force (many moons ago) I remember that we got a new guy in the shop from a northern state and one day he and I were assigned to work on a plane that was parked within walking distance of the shop.
As we walked he asked, "You're from Kentucky, right?" I said, "yes". He said, "I like to work with southerners". "Why is that?" I asked. He said, "Because I hate n****** too". I told him I try not to hate anyone but it was clear that he did.
My only question about this unique individual is, how did he escape military service or forced labor under the Nazis?
That's my answer to the morons who equate Trump with Hitler. Why are you not in the camps, or just disappeared?
Not sure. Read a couple bios at other sites which noted he was officially a non-Aryan despite a white German mother, did try to enlist but was turned down. He worked as an engineer at a defense firm, and I believe his grandfather was Liberian ambassador to Germany which may have provided additional cover. When he came to the US he enlisted and served with the 82nd airborne and in Korea, don’t know unit. Interesting man.
